ChulkJust for the sake of joining the season. I'm still not familiar with the car, first time using it and all. At least I found a no-penalty line that seems to work

ArgammonHere is my Camaro lap as a public replay. I hope this helps those racers without a team like @Chulk to find a decent line.

DuplodeAlways a good time to advertise the joys of dual-way switching: https://wiki.stunts.hu/wiki/Dual-way_switching
-
DuplodeI have posted a preview of the PTB situation at the end of week 3 in the ZCT282 - No Rails forum thread. Time spent anywhere in the top 6 brings credit to earn bonus points, so there's always a lot going on!
-
HerrNoveThanks @Argammon! Totally out of my league, but it's good for me beginner to see what kind of tricks one has to master to compete with the elite!
-
DuplodeAudi, NoRH. This one has plenty of dual-way switching, but without the hardest cuts.

-
HerrNoveOK, I'm approaching the limit of my skills. It's crazy to think that I gain about 2 seconds on dreadnaut from the start till the first cork, but he gains twice as much on me in the part from the cork to the banked road. I guess I am really like Partz, decent driver on flatland but scared of acrobatics :-)
1:24.95
-
Erik BarrosHello and welcome @HerrNove. It's normal for more experienced players to have a larger repertoire of tricks, from race to race you'll learn new stunts and increase your skill limit, I hope you enjoy the process. I always recommend looking at the community's YouTube page, there are a series of videos from @Overdrijf that helped me a lot. And if you have any questions, the community will always be available to help you.
-
Erik Barros
-
HerrNoveThanks @ErikBarros! I also found Overdrijf's videos extremely useful. The rest, as you said, can probably only be learned with experience. For now, Argammon's insane cork-to-cork jump is only something to be enjoyed in the replay player
-
DuplodeOne more PTB overtake before the quiet days begin

-
HerrNoveWow! I was about to comment something about the Oxia's supremacy and why the Diablo seems better than the Countach (I was able to lower my time by 4-5 seconds by switching to the purple Lamborghini). And then the pro driver came
-
Duplode@HerrNove In fairness, this is perhaps the most balanced race with respect to the cars in a long while!

DuplodeResults confirmed! Congratulations to @AlanRotoi and @Argammon (stunning Acura laps!), and also to @MiDiaN (rejoining with Am League win and overall top 10 straight away!), @MortimerMcMire and @HerrNove (Am League podium on the debut!). The PTB results have been posted to the Forum: ZCT282 - No Rails . Four racers have gotten bonus points, and eleven have earned PTB time! Things are almost ready for ZCT283; the new track will be up in a couple hours or so from now.
-
Shoegazing LeoWill the next track be "Some Rails"?
-
ArgammonCongratulations @Alanrotoi and the DPS team for the win and great teamwork. Kudos also to @Duplode for the best Oxia lap and myself -haha- for managing the leap of faith with the Countach. But the man of the round for me is @MiDiaN for winning the amateur race and a top 10 result in his first real race. Congrats also to @MortimerMCMire and @HerrNovo for completing the AM podium. Finally, I think this race marked an excellent start to the season with 22 racers and a plentitude of replays. :-D

Ryoma@Cas is it possible to compile only the part of pretty garage which create the side view to produce an image of 640 pixels for example ? I know you draw the wheels after...but is it possible ?
-
HerrNoveIs there any tutorial to master the “drift & jump” technique that the pros are using to negotiate the ramp + sharp left in the southeastern corner of the map? I manage to start the drift by steering hard left and shifting gear while climbing the ramp, but I cannot stop the skidding when I land, and even countersteering does not save me from sliding into the water. Is it just a matter of trying and retrying?
-
Alan RotoiIt depends on some factors but you can manage it by the speed of the car. Try to slowdown a bit and turn the stearing wheel to the right.
-
Duplode@HerrNove A key point is that you don't want to turn the wheel all the way to the left while taking the jump, but rather to find the right amount of steering that gives you a good trajectory, without over-rotating the car or overshooting the track (figuring that out usually requires some retrying/RH). As Alan says, the details depend on the specific situation you're in (for instance, cars with very good handling can make it harder to start a slide). On the landing with countersteering, releasing the gas or slowing down can give you more margin for error, though you ideally want to keep as much speed as possible. (That being so, one approach is starting with a conservative landing, and then gradually pushing harder on further attempts as you gain confidence.)
-
KyLiE@HerrNove, regarding the landing, you may need to countersteer in one direction and then the other to stabilise the car. Rarely can this be done in real time, so precise replay handling is usually required. The best advice I can give is when watching someone else's replay, pay close attention to the gauges, steering indicator and engine noise. That will give you a good idea of what inputs they are using and how fast they are going.
-
ArgammonI think it isn't easy to explain the procedure in words. Perhaps it would be best if one of the pros would make a video about it. I am thinking about @Alanrotoi or @Overdrijf who made excellent videos before.
-
Erik Barros@HerrNove another tip is in relation to the angle at which you land on the road, so you don't countersteer straight into the water. Stopping accelerating while you're in the air helps, with patience you will master the technique.
-
DuplodeOxia, NoRH. Adding to all of the top 6 action, we now have a three-way fight for the lead going on!
1:35.65
-
HerrNoveThanks everyone for the tips! After “some” attempts, I managed to land my first drift-jump. Not very clean but still a save of almost 2 seconds on my previous trajectory. From now, I guess, it's just a matter of training. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
-
HerrNove@Duplode, are you hiding your cards? What are you concealing, a 1:09 run you're waiting to post till you can keep the replay private
?
Feb 13
-
Duplode@HerrNove Not really
Just easing myself into the race -- ZCT282 was an intense one! Great to hear about the drift, BTW
-
Mortimer McMireSlowly improving, but as the quote goes: “Some quit due to slow progress. Never grasping the fact that slow progress is progress.”
1:23.58
-
DuplodeVisit https://zak.stunts.hu/articles/ptb-updates-season-2025 to check the PTB hour counts as of last midnight! Updates will be regularly posted there until the PTB system is fully integrated to the site.
-
The season is on — and so is PTB!
The 2025 season started with ZCT282, a race that had a bit of everything: a cornucopia of paths, a lot of replays, room for this year's custom cars to shine, strong performances from new and returning racers, and a late, late surge of Acura laps stealing the show. The intense activity has continued into ZCT283, further consolidating an excellent start to the season!
This season has introduced the Position Time Bonus (PTB) system. Staying in the fight for top 6 positions can already bring you bonus points! We are working on fully integrating PTB into the site, so that features such as live charts with the hour totals (similar to those of the old LTB system) will be available. Meanwhile, you can follow your PTB progress using this page, which will be updated every few days with the current situation in the ongoing race.
P.S.: Three slots are still available in the guest tracks calendar, including that of the next race starting in March. Let us know if you'd like to claim any of them!
-
Mortimer McMireAnd here's my Gar-Lap for this month!
2:03.08
-
Mortimer McMireJust came across this quote from legendary f1-driver Sterling Moss: "To achieve anything in this game you must be prepare to dabble in the boundary of disaster." Didn't know he used to play Stunts in his spare time!
-
Duplode"To dabble in the boundary of disaster" certainly applies to countersteering right on the waterline!
-
MiDiaNSeason 2007 Track C79 (Default) is missing the replays folder
. I was curious how fast someone could race that track. Anyone knows where to find it?
-
Alan RotoiYou mean Default? You'll find those replays in the z80 zip file: https://zak.stunts.hu/archives/tracks/zct080.zip That's a very good replay but not the world record. The record belongs to Renato Biker with a 0:30.35 since the 2010-02-23. If you like to watch more original tracks records you can download them from www.raceforkicks.com Those replays are public and there are some world records
-
Duplode@MiDiaN As Alan notes, in the past (up to ZCT169) the replays were distributed along with the track of the next race. It changed in ZCT170, as a new archiving system began to be used.
-
MiDiaNThanks guys! I'm still trying to find a replay or even a video of the world record!
-
Cas@Ryoma - Sorry I missed your post a way back. Yes, I can compile the code to get you a renderer. It's currently rendering small images. It's easy to render bigger, but it will be more obvious that the wheels are 2D, but yes, I can isolate that for you. You want a DOS executable or a Linux/Windows one?
Feb 14
-
Duplode@MiDiaN I believe that replay was never published; it was presumably sent to one of Zak's old mailboxes. It might have been preserved (Dreadnaut retrieved some of those replays a while ago, though I don't think the time span of that retrieval included 2010), though it would take some digging to find out.
-
Ryoma@Cas first of all thank you. Maybe a dos one like a dos command like "sideview stoxia.3sh". For the wheel, it's a bitmap in the code or it's calculated ? Because if it's calculated we can imagine "sideview stoxia.3sh /x640 /y480" x and y for the size of the image.
-
Cas@Ryoma - Yes, I can do that. The car image is calculated from the shape and the wheel is produced. It's just a grey circle with a lighter grey smaller circle in it. It can't draw it at angles, so wheels at any other place can look weird.
-
Frieshansennice even numbers :-)
1:20.00
-
Cas@Ryoma - You can download the renderer from https://www.raceforkicks.com/downloads/crender.zip. You'll see what I mean about wheel rendering.

HerrNovePTB, here I come! (till the experts decide to stop fooling around
)
1:19.88
-
DuplodeA pair of notes, echoing the front page news: (1) Speaking of PTB, an updated hours chart has been posted to https://zak.stunts.hu/articles/ptb-updates-season-2025 ! I'll try to post updates after Wednesdays and Saturdays during the first three weeks of the race. (2) If you feel like designing a competition track, do nominate yourself for one of the free slots in our Guest tracks 2025 calendar. In particular, it's last call for the upcoming ZCT284!
-
MiDiaNI wonder if the pros are just fooling around with lotus until public replays end.
It feels the car has reached the max possibly time for this track.
-
HerrNoveWell, on the last track everyone seemed to like the Diablo, but when the quiet replay days started the top guys all switched to cars with power gear. I guess the handicap of not being in a team is that you have to guess on your own what the others are up to. By the way, sorry on behalf of the “middle class” for creeping up to your previous time, breaking your Finnish desire for personal distance. But I see you chose to join the elite
-
MiDiaNYeah we'll see in a few days if any new cars appear among the top rankings
lol it's completely fine I love some competition in the amateur league as well!
-
DuplodeAnother factor is that the car bonuses are the closest they have been in a good while, which means fine margins and potential for ambiguity. With close bonuses, the details of the track might prove decisive -- for instance, ZCT282 had plenty of off-road lines and few "normal" corners, while ZCT283 has a larger share of conventional road racing. And indeed, one of the advantages of being in a team is doing the tests and experiments to figure things out in a shared way.
-
Argammon[...] which begs the question why you don't form a team @MiDiaN and @HerrNove. You both seem to be very motivated and talented!
-
Alan RotoiIn fact, @Chulk is an experienced racer also without a team. His knowledge of the game and the competition could be priceless.
-
HerrNoveUnfortunately, I'm in a very busy period of my life and actually Stunts is already making me neglect some duties, so I'd prefer for now to avoid doing things that hook me even more into the game. But I absolutely want to continue racing for the full season, and maybe build a track.
-
Erik Barros@HerrNove welcome to the club
-
HerrNoveIn the ZakStunts club... or in the “I wish I was a kid again and not have to worry about managing my time” club? In any case: thank you
Feb 17
-
CasHere goes an update
1:39.29
-
Ryomafor those who want to apply the crender from Cas for many files. You can put this line at the end of your dosbox conf 'for %%i in (*.3SH *.p3s) do crender "%%i" 1 640 480'without '
-
CasWhile it can't directly read P3S files, you can use stunpack to convert them to 3SH first. One thing I'd like to point out is that I had to make some basic modifications to the code as is present in Pretty Garage. If you use crender to produce an image of the same size as in Pretty Garage, it won't look as good. This is because Pretty Garage actually generates an image that's 4x4 times bigger and then applies an average colour plus alpha combination calculation. So if you want a small image, I recommend first generating a bigger one, then scaling it down with interpolation to obtain a similar result. For bigger images, it should be good enough.
-
dreadnautHey folks 👋 House move complete, still no internet and boxes everywhere 📦📦📦 Possibly back online next week. In the meanwhile, a question: want me to switch off the car scoreboards, and bring back the GAR subscoreboard for this year? I see quite a few Vette laps coming in!
-
dreadnautAlso, how would you visualise PTB during a race, on the track page? Go wild with your ideas in the forum thread: Position Time Bonus
Feb 18
-
DuplodeHi @dreadnaut! On the GAR scoreboard, it would be nice to have it back, but does it have to be instead of the car podiums? The bonuses are the most balanced they have been in a good while, and we're seeing plenty of alternative car activity. That feels worth featuring too
1:16.06
-
Alan RotoiCar podiums is one of the greatest ideas in the last years, please don't take them away. It's the reason of the high number of replays since Jan 2023.
-
Ryoma@Cas thanks for the précision. I tried my line command (without P3S so) and it's very magic to see all the car. I love it !!
-
dreadnaut@Duplode, @AlanRotoi, happy to have both GAR and car-podiums. My impression was that single car battles had died out after the initial novelty, with few messages about them, and the number of completed podiums decreasing over time. So to avoid spreading too thin, I was suggesting swapping one side-quest for another.
-
dreadnautIn the meanwhile, GAR submissions are open! Not sure how many replays in the style have already been posted in the past two races, but might be worth tagging them 🙏
-
HerrNoveAFAIK, all current Vette laps on this track have been under GAR rules.
-
DuplodeAwesome! And yes, all Vette laps on the current track, and the ones in ZCT282 too, with one exception. I have added the GAR tag to them

DuplodeIt does work all right

RaskolnikovikHi, im new here! This is my first race; hope im doing it alright. This community is awesome, thanks for let me race with all of you.
1:42.49 A
-
Alan RotoiWelcome @Raskolnikovik! Tell us something about you! Which city are you from? I'm from Buenos Aires.
-
RaskolnikovikI'm from Buenos Aires too. I used to play Stunts when I was a kid on an old IBM 340. I found this site because I am making a video about old games, and this community blew my mind. I hope I can improve my skills. Seeing the replays of the other racers, I realized there is a lot to learn
-
Raskolnikovik(Sorry, I sent this message twice. Edit and I'll take this opportunity to thank you all!)
-
KyLiEWelcome @Raskolnikovik!
-
HerrNoveWelcome @Raskolnikovik! I'm Italian so basically half Argentinian, too
and I have some distant cousins living near Bs As.
-
Mortimer McMireWelcome @Raskolnikovik! I'm not from Argentina but being Dutch I do have a queen that was born in Argentina
!
-
FrieshansenWelcome @Raskolnikovik!
-
ArgammonWelcome @Raskolnikovik! I see you posted a very good GAR time.
-
Mortimer McMireFirst "somewhat" steady Lotus lap. Still a long way to go!
1:25.35
-
SpoonboyWelcome @Raskolnikovik! I joined a couple of years ago while covering Stunts for the DOS Game Club podcast, and I've been here ever since! The community around this game is amazing, unlike any other I've seen. Healthy competition, with plenty of advice and teamwork on show. We all just want eachother to get the best result we can, this pushes us each to improve in our own way. You are in good company - Argentina has a good history here
Feb 27
-
HerrNoveIn the unlikely case someone is passing by Carlsbad (Czech Republic) on March 29th, there is a fair with a retrogaming corner featuring Stunts. There is even a mini-tournament

-
RaskolnikovikThanks, everyone, for the welcome. Btw: I hit a wall. I can't get past the 1:31' barrier. Any suggestions?
-
Alan RotoiCheck the fastest public replay available here: https://zak.stunts.hu/tracks/ZCT283/all Maybe you can get some ideas to improve some parts of the track.
-
DuplodeHi @Raskolnikovik! I see you're making good progress already
Something you'll see on the public replays is a slide jump over water after the bridge, which is tricky to get right but can save several seconds on its own. There are some useful comments about it in the news archive for Feb 12. Elsewhere, I suggest trying to carry as much speed as possible through the east sector (with the split, the pipes, and the approach to the loop). Some things that could help: adjusting the jump from the banked road at the split (it seems you land just a bit outside the 2x2 "fast grass" square of the chicane -- which behaves as asphalt and so allows for faster landings), getting some airtime from the pipe walls, and approaching the left turn after the split from the outside (which gives you a wider line, as well as less and later slowdown on real grass).
-
Ryoma
-
Alan RotoiBeatiful as usual! Is this dashboard for Ferrari F-50?
-
RyomaThanks @Alan yes but if you look to NFS, the gauge board and the wheel are alone in front of the eyes (dasm and dast) but it's not possible so I made this compromise
-
Spoonboy@Ryoma can't wait for another Ferrari fix!
-
Ryoma@Spoonboy the F50 is on my mega
-
HerrNove@Ryoma Looks great! The blue of the speedometer really seems to be glowing! @Raskolnikovik From a fellow newcomer: start practicing with manual transmission. Also, if you have time, split the track in segments and create an Excel file comparing your partial time in each segment with other replays. So you can see where you are already performing optimally and where you can gain time.
Feb 28
-
Alan RotoiI suggest you guys to form a team. Working together will help you to improve finding shortcuts and tricks. Sharing knowledge, thoughts, maps, replays between teammates is allowed in ZakStunts. Every team has a private subforum in the Stunts Forum. Furthermore, it's more fun to walk these initial steps accompanied and supported by teammates.
-
RaskolnikovikSo close x__x (Little by little, I'm mastering the drift on the ramp)
1:29.62 A
-
Argammon@Raskolnikovik, are you using replay handling? That tecvhnique helps a lot when doing tricks like slide jumps even though the experienced drivers also manage slide jumps without. However, for more complicated tricks replay handling is essential.

RaskolnikovikYes! Thanks, @Argammon. I'm starting to realize how the slide jump works. I've watched a lot of replays, it has to do with how you turn the steering wheel before landing and then hold it, but I'm still practicing. I just managed to do it with the Mercedes in another .rpl.
