I don't quite understand the leading-time system. Sometimes (a) you only get 1 point when the full hour is completed, and sometimes you get it when it is not. An example for (a) is that I was leading today from 16:35 to 17:21 and 17:35 to 18:25 without getting a point. So the times did not add up. An example for (b) is that Duplode was leading yesterday (7.09.) from 14:46 to 15:42 and got a point even though the full hour wasn't completed. I would appreciate if somebody in the know could explain. Smiley
  • Duplode
My understanding (from looking at LTB charts rather than code) was that only full, continuous hours were counted. It's odd that that specific lap brought an hour after 56 minutes. It seems to have happened again right now, by the way.
    McLaren 1:08.73
  • dreadnaut
Haha, this comes up sometimes, then people forget Grin It's all working as planned: the first hour, and only the first hour, has a ten-minute discount!

  • satanziege
    Not my track :-D
  • Daniel3D
@satanziege, this track was made for the fast cars. Try the P962, jaguar or the mercedes DTM. After that maybe the McLaren, if you're up to the challenge.. I don't know which cars suits you best, but that car will get you a good time..

There are a few blind jumps, but otherwise this is a really cool track that I greatly enjoyed! Definitely going to be at the bottom of the scoreboard for the car I used, but hey, I had fun!

    LM002 1:55.38 A
  • HunterBoy344
Do you guys recommend automatic or manual? I noticed most of the higher places use manual, should I be using it?
  • dreadnaut
Manual is essential for powergear laps, and it's usually faster than automatic. You can gain a bit of speed by shifting up before or during jumps, or break harder by shifting down early. It's definitely a skill worth learning, but not losing speed, shortcuts and loop tricks will help you more at the beginning.
  • dreadnaut
Let's talk about a Driving school refresh in the Forum!
  • Alan Rotoi
    Live update tomorrow? Grin

Sep 23

  • Argammon
I am sensing the first rotoi win of the season. Wink
  • Spoonboy
A Driving School episode with advice on shifting gears for best speed would be great!
  • Overdrijf
I already made a few videos with my recommendations. The first one contains most of my shofting advice: https://www.youtube.com/@stunts-retrogame/playlists (this link doesn't seem to want to become clickable, so just copy it). dreadnaut sums it up very well, and in addition the sound of the engine while knowing the gear you're in is also a great way to have an idea of how fast you're going and how fast you should be going for for instance a corner. That being said, I know I don't actually shift optimally. There was a race a while ago where I tried to copy someone else's lap and I was already behind the tiniest amount just on the straight. Just shifting up right before the top of the RPM curve is nearly optimal, but I don't quite know how to make it fully optimal with all cars.
  • Alan Rotoi
I ask for a live update every month Grin
  • Overdrijf
Addendum to my previous post: some cars are harder to shift than others, and some of you guys get some pretty sharp automatic times. Cheesy
  • Spoonboy
Thanks Overdrijf, I'll rewatch the first episode. Thought it might have something to do with each cars' Peak Torque RPM figure (from the wiki), but that hasn't helped me on track so far!
  • Overdrijf
If you're driving the McLaren: that is just plain one of the harder cars to shift manually. It accelerates so fast with a relatively modest top speed that you have to be shifting continuously. It's almost like the Superkart in that regard. You can see it in the current scoreboard too. Some people go automatic because of this particular car.
  • Friker
Ehm.. nothing to see here.. O:-)

Sep 24

  • KyLiE
Congratulations to @Duplode, @Argammon and @Alan! Smiley This was a tough race!
  • Duplode
Thanks @KyLiE! The leading battle with @AlanRotoi earlier in the month and with @Argammon to the very end sire was intense! Some nice activity elsewhere as well, with all of the late car switches. Brilliant race, full of alternatives -- kudos to @Daniel3D for the track design!
  • Erik Barros
Congratulations guys!! Nice to see @Heretic on scoreboard again!! Very interesting Lambo lap by @Argammom
  • Overdrijf
So... how did that magic in the pipe work? Turning around alone is already pretty hard, as both pipes and corkscrews seem to mess with sideways turning a bit, making it a bit more like strafing. How did you guys get the turnaround and the powergear in such a compact package? I can't quite tell from seeing the replays and trying it.
  • Argammon
Congratulations @Duplode and @Alanrotoi. I am also gaining more and more respect for racers like Ayrton, Renator Biker and Finrok. Delivering a brilliant race or two is one thing, driving a flawless season is another.
  • dreadnaut
Scoreboard confirmed! Congratulations to @Duplode, @Argammon and @AlanRotoi 🎉 And we have three different cars on the amateur podium! Well done to @ErikBarros, @MarkNailwood and @Spoonboy! 🎆
  • dreadnaut
And ZCT267 is up! Thank you @Overdrijf Smiley
  • Alan Rotoi

Sep 25

  • Overdrijf
Could I respectfully request to have the map posted as I designed it? Yes, driving loops is hard, but I'd still like to have one there. I've been bummed about these small but very impactful changes (without communication about them) before, I just don't like them. I guess I'm too much of a control freak.
  • Overdrijf
I'm also not sure what was so wrong about the boats going up and down the river rather than ramming into the shore, but at least that's pretty much cosmetic. Edit: track posted here: ZCT 267 - The Who Movie?
  • Overdrijf
(I've been informed the boats are my own fault, the editor uses the wrong symbols. That makes sense. #loopgate #bringtheloopback #driveeveryonecrazy)
  • dreadnaut
Sorry about the loop, I should have asked and waited for a reply, but didn't have the time. Haven't touched anything else though, the boats are in the same positions. At this point the track remain as is though, thanks for posting the original version on the Forum.
  • Overdrijf
The track has been up for two hours of a four week time window. Can you please reset it? There's an idea behind the design. In return I'm willing to promise not to sign up for a track next year so you won't have this problem.
  • Duplode
@dreadnaut I agree with Overdrijf: it's early enough; we can afford a reset. Please reconsider.
  • dreadnaut
Maybe the idea is the one I wanted to avoid 🤣 Way too late here though, can you do the switch @Duplode?
  • Overdrijf
Thanks @dreadnaut. We'll chat a bit more about the concept and such over DM or mail when we're not both a few hours past our optimal sleepy sleepy time.
  • Duplode
I'm on a cellphone, but I think it can be worked out. Gimme a moment...
  • Duplode
Okay, the track has been replaced following the discussion here. Replays sent earlier in the evening, driven in the other version, have been removed -- sorry @MarkNailwood and the Doubleplusspeed folks for the inconvenience!

Something is wrong with Alanrotoi's leading time. He had 240 hours (+1 point) last month, meaning he should start with 0 hours. However, it shows him with 247 hours of which 7 hours are from this month.
  • Daniel3D
It seems that exactly 240 gains a point but doesn't reset the counter for next month.. good one for the stress test .

Sep 27

  • Duplode
@Overdrijf On your Sep 24 question about the 266 pipe: using the pipe as a loop (that is, doing a 90° turn and trying to get PG through multiple upside down passes) does tend to result in ejections and explosions. One way around that is going only partway to PG and then gently steering towards a corkscrew exit carrying as much speed as possible (I think Argammon's lap illustrates that well). Another way is doing the 180° turn as a powerslide of sorts: while the car won't snap back from the slide in PG because it's the Acura, an useful exit angle might be attained nonetheless.
  • Ryoma
Maybe the best car for this track ?
    Challenger 2:09.66
  • Duplode
@Ryoma Not sure how it will turn out, but it's an interesting one to try!

I think it is an Indy track...
  • Ryoma
    @Duplode I think so
    P962 2:05.07
  • Duplode
@Argammon Personally, I wouldn't really mind if we were kept away from the Indy this month, or even from PG generally...
    P962 1:49.63
  • Argammon
@Duplode, I wouldn't mind that either. I think it will likely end as a PG race though. Wink

Sep 30

  • Argammon
Ok, time for an apology, @Overdrijf! To do a power-gear lap on this track isn't as easy as I thought. That is, at least not for me. I don't know what the Indy experts think...
