I know those displays that did not show the right number. I had those too. OK. I will just state the things I know for a fact: 1 - Officially, the fastest speed that a 80386DX was made for was 40MHz. 2 - My 80386DX would run at 60MHz. The display was configured to display that speed when the turbo was on because the CPU was going to run at that speed. Nobody had used that box before. My CPU was the first one to use it. When I bought it, it was advertised as a 386 60/40. 3 - Yes, the turbo button was designed to allow slower speeds (not faster) for compatibility with older software. This could mean that the natural speed of my CPU was 60MHz or that it was overclocked. I don't know that part, but it would run at 60MHz. I know that for a fact, mate
  • Cas
By the way: a new race has started at Race For Kicks Smiley http://r4k.fnhost.org
  • Marco
Do you remember if it was a Commodore?
  • Cas
And here's the forum thread: 2019-7 (Google sucks) @Marco - Ha, ha! I do own a Commodore 64, as a matter of fact. And currently, I'm working on a hobby computer project based on a Z80B (running at 6MHz). It's a lot of fun Smiley
  • Marco
I'm not joking. Commodore did several PC and one of them was a 386 named PC 60/40 . I'm quite sure that you had one of them or a clone of that PC. pagina.php?ccc=56&pag=027.jpg
  • Marco
It was a 386 at 16Mhz . With turbo disable, 8 mhz. I'm a passionate dos gamer, I have more than 10 dos PC starting from the first IBM PC 4.7mhz to the Pentium 200 mhz .. passing from 8086, 286, 386, 486 , everything. I know what it means to play with original hw and i love it much more than dosbox. But When i have suggested to Stan to play on a modern PC, I was simply refering to this championship . It has no sense to play this championship with a 286 because it is for real too slow and you have also to continuosly port the files from the 286 to the modern pc to be uploaded ... a 386 is still slow too. There s need at least of a 486dx to play stunts at its best with max details. So I'm the first one to agree that you can play Stunts for your passion with a 286 or 386 but I thought that was a good suggestion for Stan to try dos box too. Believe me Cas, if you would have a 386 or a 486 as I have, you would play anyway on dosbox the Zak championship if you don t want to become crazy or lose your eyes with old 60hz monitor refresh Smiley
  • Cas
Oh! I didn't know about that Commodore. I knew about the 64 and 128 and then the Amiga 500. No, my PC was a clone (not a true IBM), but it contained a 80386 microprocessor which, I assume, must have been the 40MHz one, but for some reason, was running at 60MHz. I would like to find out more about it now, but it's very hard to tell. It's been too long ago. And yes, a 286 is noticeably slow for Stunts. On "my" 386, however, I don't remember having ever noticed a slowdown. Maybe it was overclocked after all! But yes, CRT screens weren't good. That's true. Oh, I absolutely love DOS computers. Real hardware access. The real reason I'd still use DOSBox for the tournament is not the speed, but the fact that otherwise, I don't know how I'd send the replay file! I've been seriously considering to separate my "computing" from my "interneting", because new computers are no longer good for most of the things I do (except surfing the web).
  • Shoegazing Leo
Lionel Richie led The Commodores for a plenty of years...
  • Marco
The way to upload the file is that you must have a floppy drive on your modern pc and then port the files from the 286 to the modern pc by floppies. I did it. Yes you remember that was good a 386 but it was not good as a better pc. The same for indycar racing, a 486 dx2 is good but a pentium 200mhz is better. Check my fb page Marco Plays Dos Games , yesterday i have done a live video playing indycar on origonal hw By the way, you have never had a 386 60 mhz advertised, believe me Smiley)

  • Stan 286XT
The system has cancelled 2 time my replay boooH!!!ù I don't have a lot of time!!!
  • dreadnaut
@Stan, you replays were deleted because you wrote the wrong penalty time. The "penalty time" IS NOT the "car bonus" you find on the track page. Leave ZERO penalty time, unless Stunts tells you otherwise. Please re-upload the same replay without penalty. ? Ri-carica i tuoi replay senza "Penalty time"!

I'm getting a strange message when trying to post a replay. It says "Sorry, you didn't submit a replay. Try again". And I try again and I AM submitting a replay and they file is OK. I don't know what to do :S

Sep 15

  • dreadnaut
Mmmh, something odd is afoot: same problem on the RPLInfo page ? There seems to be an issue with the temporary directory for uploads, which is outside what I can touch. Let's see if it gets fixed by the hosting...

happy birthday from me, too btw: I've made both of my current R4K replays public, also I've seen that thanks to Duplode I have my own wiki.stunts.hu entry - i quite like the "utterly dominating OWOOT-races" Cheesy )

@Marco hi Marco I have something for your channel - your old GP2-challenge from 2013 (Monza from last place to podium at ace difficulty without driving aids) your original video: my reaction video I just uploaded:
  • Marco
Wow my great friend Seeker !!! NICE DONE

Sep 20

  • Marco
Hi Seeker, anyway, you used the automatic gear Smiley
  • Seeker1982
yes, but with the stupid control scheme GP2 uses i can't use manual. I'd use manual if it was possible to change the control scheme to something not that awkward, Also i don't think that automatic gears makes faster times - if anything than i think its slower
  • Marco
Yes automatic is slower, If you check i was one second faster
  • Marco
but it depends also by the car setup obviously
  • dreadnaut
Seeker, if you are playing in DOSBox, you might be able to reassign keys using the Ctrl-F1 console.

  • dreadnaut
Experimenting with a new chart in the "All results" page. Have a look and let me know Smiley
  • Alan Rotoi
@dreadnaut I sent you the final version of the track Wink
  • Alan Rotoi
    Nice chart! I love it!
  • Overdrijf
    Damn, that's a sexy chart.
  • Overdrijf
One minor note about the chart: if you go back to previous month the times that were published during the silent days are open circles ("published as hidden replay") but all the times published during the second half of the month show up as filled in circles ("replay published"). I suppose that has to do with how after the race closes all replays are published. EDIT: Although funnily enough if you go back to races from before replays during the first half of the months were automatically public the circles do all have the correct filling.
  • dreadnaut
Actually, full circle means "you can download this", and empty circle means "the replay cannot be downloaded", either because the race is still in progress, or because it's an old race and we don't have all replays. They are equivalent to the "Download" links in the list below.
  • dreadnaut
Uhm, replays-that-were-quiet show up a little 'Q's, but if they look too much like empty circles then I can switch to a different color. Oh, light blue dots are GAR, and other tagged replays.
  • Seeker1982
I know it's possible to reassign keys with DOSbox, but I have no idea how to do so.. Also, due to Burnout I have poor concentration and other issues. I'd need a noob-save guide for changing Dosboxes Keymapping for GP2
  • Duplode
@Seeker There is an explanation of DosBox remapping at https://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Mapper -- the first example there is roughly what I was going to write here as an illustration.

Sep 22

  • dreadnaut
I've published the quiet replays, I'll check them tomorrow and upload the new track. For the moment, congratulation to Marco, shaving even more time from his already strong replay!
  • Overdrijf
Congratulations guys, couldn't keep up with you this month. Everyone ready for the 3 track podium race?
  • dreadnaut
Scoreboard confirmed, congratulations to Marco, Alan Rotoi, and me Smiley Now on to ZCT219, "Castelar" by Alan!
  • Stingray86

  • Overdrijf
My traditional short lived first place by opening with the highest ranked fast car of the month. Also: Welcome Stingray!
  • Marco
Hi my friends, sorry but, regarding the championship . What's the situation ?
  • Duplode
You'll want to double-check my calculations, @Marco, but anyway: right now, you have 115 points guaranteed. Assuming maximum (42) points achieved over the final three races, and accounting for the appropriate discards, Overdrijf and I would reach 105 points, Seeker, 101, and dreadnaut, 99. That being so...
  • Overdrijf
Basically, you're going for the all time highscore table at this point, while we're racing for the podium. You need to place second or first or get LTB points for this month to even matter for your real end score. In the bigger picture we're having a nice and stable year. Between 13 and 15 entries every month, and, counting sd4000 who joined in February, 11 racers who've been there for every race so far.
  • dreadnaut

That's super cool. I've been having ideas for a few years for a similar projects, 6 overlapping maps called the Overzone, where you can see sections of two other tracks on the current one. But the more I let other factors dictate a track, the less happy I am about the track. Sad

@Alan Rotoi WOW! Nice set of islands! Btw did you guys know that i own and manage the channel inspired by Guybrush Threepwood? - https://www.youtube.com/user/thriftweeds
  • Stan 286XT
I cant send replay Database say the lap end whit a crash there isn't crash
  • Overdrijf
@Stan: I think it was posted a while ago that that's an issue with the length of the replay after finishing. Go into the replay, set it at just before finishing, now continue playing. As you finish, don't hit escape or such. Now save that replay and try uploading it again.
  • Stingray86
This is going to take lots of practice! I think im at the 'Bernie' level now.
    BMW DTM 1:15.95
  • Stan 286XT
I send the replay made with my turbo 286 at zack!
  • Overdrijf
@Stingray: It's not that bad. If this replay is an indication I'd say you have a fair shot at winning the newbie league next year. Beating someone like Marco having the season of his career can be more of a long term goal.
  • Overdrijf
Can't we have a rule that Marco can not start posting times until the second week or something? That's a sharp early lap.
    BMW DTM 1:03.71
  • dreadnaut
@Stingray: note that in the "All results" section you can download replays sent during the public period, and learn from people at the top!
  • afullo
@Stan: did you sent your replay via a mean different from the uploader?

Sep 25

  • Stan 286XT
The uploder don't work Zack stunt upload my replay sent via email thanks
  • afullo
Hmm, I don't think it will be uploaded, it's better if you retry with the usual replay submission form. Follow Overdrijf's advice. Wink
  • Stan 286XT
Uploaded!!!!!!! Now I try to eat same seconds whit Turbo286
  • Stingray86
Thanks for all the support guys! I did watch some of the other replays, had no idea these tricks existed - will have to try them out! I do like following the 'GAR' rules though for now.
  • afullo
Several tricks are also explained here: Stunts Wiki: Category

Sep 26

  • Stingray86
The tricks and especially the replay handling help alot! Could not master the split road jump trick though - I'm sure practice will breed results! Not that I would ever do it, but what stops players from using say; Marco's best replay, and just trying to improve on the last few seconds of his replay? Again I would never do this.
  • Marco
Hi @Stingray86 , Yes, it is not impossible but it would be very hard here that someone steal a replay to another racer. You could discover that by watching the replays but, first of all, this is a very honest community with great people. Last but not least, we perfectly know skills and laptime of eachone. if a new rookie reaches the first positions at the first race ... something could be wrong with his replay Smiley))
  • afullo
Also, the replays are checked by the competition manager before validating the results at the end of the race, a "theft" would result in lots of consecutive bytes of the files identical, which is easy to figure out...
  • dreadnaut
It's not even that technical: all replays will be public at the end of the race, and if a good replay (maybe unexpected) looks very similar to another one, it will be spotted by someone. It's a sort of "peer review" Smiley
  • Overdrijf
That's why I always create fully separate replays for Duplode and myself. What? You didn't think he actually won so many races by himself, did you? Wink

Sep 27

  • Stingray86
Ah yes that makes sense now. This is an honest community with great people. Time to burn some rubber Smiley

Thanks. Wow that is fast GAR. Not sure if I can top that. Going to keep at it though! Have just set up an old PC exclusively for STUNTS Cheesy
  • Marco
Stingray, have you understood that on the GAR championship is not allowed the Replay Handling ?
  • Stingray86
Yes Marco, I understand NO replay handling in GAR. You can trust me not to do it. I'll double check my last GAR as I saved them in different folders.
  • Stingray86
Confirmed correct GAR replay submitted previously. I understand and respect the Gentlemen's Agreement Rules.
    BMW DTM 1:08.59
  • Marco
I don't like to be second, so I would prefer to be third considering that I cannot be first. Seeker is not human. So Stingray, please pass me. I'm becoming old and i lose sometimes the fingers on turns Smiley))
