Mindstorming about transmission types

How manual transmission came into our life... I was checking out some older scoreboards, and I was so surprised that at the first tracks almost everyone used automatic transmission, only KHR and JTK used the manual. And then in 2001 september, the track with the Audi, the race for milliseconds changed the whole thing. Racers began to use manual transmission to achieve better times. It`s also intresting that it was common one year ago, that the winner was SECONDS before the second racer.
So if you say there`s no challenge in the competition now, you aren`t right, there are much greater battles nowadays.
I`ve made a statistic how many racers used manual transmission:
 Track  Racers  Manual tr.  Percentage
 Zct01  9  2  22%
 Zct02  11  2  18%
 Zct03  7  1  14%
 Zct04  8  0  0%
 Zct05  7  0  0%
 Zct06  10  6  60%
 Zct07  9  5  56%
 Zct08  9  8  89%
 Zct09  10  7  70%
 Zct10  14  12  86%
 Zct11  12  10  83%
 Zct12  16  12  75%
 Zct13  14  8  57%
