Italian Fiat Uno, nice. I will test it on my channel Smiley

  • HunterBoy344
Tried the car with the best time bonus. Doesn't seem to be the one the winners are using though, lol. I assume someone found a really good power gear line?
    Thunderbird 1:41.24 A
  • Duplode
@HunterBoy344 As high as it is, I think the bonus of the Thunderbird isn't quite high enough to fully cover the gap to some of the other cars. Considering the Lola, for instance, 0% is actually a fairly good bonus for an Indy-tier race car even in the absence of powergear.

Live race confirmed for this Saturday, 20:00 UTC! The track is still under construction; as soon as it is ready it will be made available for test driving on the race thread: Texarkana (2024-09-07)

New car new track, nice concept!

I'm trying the Lola Cosworth Indy first time in my Zack Stunts "career" but damn that thing is fast and it steers really sensitive. That combination makes it almost impossible for me to make the corner on the first bridge Sad . And with a (for now) best time of 1:36, I think I'll have a hard time keeping up with you guys on this track!
  • dreadnaut
The Lola is quite the twitchy car, but I enjoy its good breaks!
    Lola 1:20.70
  • Duplode
@MortimerMcMire Something that might work there: taking the jump over the building in 3rd gear, aiming to enter the 180° bridge corner at 125-130 mph and then to keep that speed roughly constant by gently tapping the accelerator (you won't want to hold neither of the controls pressed continuously for very long). Once you gain confidence with that approach, you might then gradually try to gradually push a little harder. I have just posted a public NoRH replay (you can find it in the All Results page linked from the scoreboard) driven roughly along those lines.
    Lola 1:24.00
  • Mortimer McMire
Thanks @Duplode! I'm not quite there yet but for now I've already upped my average speed with 10 Mph just after that bridge. So I guess that's a good starting point to lower my lap times with the Lola.
  • Mortimer McMire
And with the hints from @Duplode I've already managed to improve my Lola laptime by six seconds on the first try! There's hope for me after all Wink !
    Lola 1:30.70
  • Duplode
Very nice @MortimerMcMire, keep it up! Smiley

  • HunterBoy344
Happy belated birthday to everyone who had a birthday in the past few days! Sorry for missing them on the actual days they happened, I was really busy and forgot to check the shoutbox... Anyway, @Zapper, I responded to your poll, I think both original and new paint jobs would be good!

Congratulations to @duplode, @AlanRotoi and @MarkNailwood for making it to the podium! Also congratulations to @Ryoma for once again directing me to the second place in the amateur league and to @Cas for completing said podium! And again a big thank you to @Duplode for giving me some hints last week, I think I wouldn’t have driven the laptime I did without your help!
  • Duplode
Thanks @MortimerMcMire -- that was good progress from you, great to see! Congratulations to @Ryoma as well for winning the Am League race and reaching a solid overall 8th place! Also good work from @MarkNailwood, who won a close four-way battle for 3rd with some more beautiful driving.
  • Ryoma
Thanks Mortimer. Maybe I have to change my pseudo to Commander Keen :p. To celebrate this victory in AM League, the Peugeot 905 is released. Sorry Zapper, I stole the dashboard of your Mazda....https://mega.nz/folder/1mJEwDCC#4k1vV5V8T_xgxcNidXV31w
  • dreadnaut
    Scoreboard confirmed! Congratulations to @Duplode, @AlanRotoi and @MarkNailwood 🏆

And one for the road. Just a "slight" improvement with the Lancia compared to my last lap with that car ;p!

The end of the ninth round is a crucial moment in a ZakStunts season! Here is a summary of where things currently stand in the various battles across the scoreboards: 2024 State of Play: where things stand after round nine

  • Zapper
No problem on "stealing" parts of Mazda 787B dashboard @Ryoma, If you agree I may also use some dashboard elements of your Integrale's release for Zapper's car pack (vannila cars). Smiley
  • Ryoma
@Zapper obviously it's ok. The Delta needs it's right dashboard.
  • Zapper
    Thanks @Ryoma!
  • Mortimer McMire
Quick question here guys. I've been analyzing my laps and comparing them to a few other racers and I find that my shifting is not what it needs to be. I tend to shift a few frames (and sometimes even a little more) before the meter hits the bottom. This seems to cost me in my topspeed and over a whole lap it can even cost me seconds. My guess is that I do this to prevent the meter/motor to go into overdrive. I'm now pushing myself to shift a little bit later to prevent this but now I tend to shift to late and the engine goes into overdrive way to much for my taste (and it will probably also lose me some speed and with that time). Of course I will get a better feeling for it if I exercise shifting a little bit more, but for now: what's the faster way. Shifting a little bit earlier or a little bit to late? Or is there no (big) difference? Thanks in advance!
  • Alan Rotoi
It depends on the car. A good exercise is drag racing with INDY against Skid in a long straight. Skid shifts exactly like an automatic gear racer.
  • Ryoma
@Mortimer I think it's depend of the torque curve.... I want to say that you have to shift at the max horsepower (remind torque multiplies rpm equal power)... Sometimes it's some RPM before max RPM.
  • Ryoma
I did 1'40 with the Oxia and 2'00 with the ZX
  • Spoonboy
@MortimerMcMire the drag advice is good. Set up a simple track with a decent starting straight. Then experiment with different shifting points and compare times to a chosen landmark. As mentioned, with many cars max rpm can be best, but a few have surprisingly low points for best shifting!

  • Ryoma
    One little question : why am I credited 1XP for a 6th at zct276? I have finished 8th.
  • Mortimer McMire
Thanks for the quick answers guys! I'm convinced those will help me improve my shifting (and with that the overall driving experiences).
  • Spoonboy
@Ryoma that must be my +1XP for 6th in ZCT277 that I didn't get yet Wink
  • Spoonboy
@@MortimerMcMire I found shifting difficult to get right at first too, but once I understood it my times improved a lot.
  • Mortimer McMire
Progress is slow but I'm steadily getting where I want to go. Luckily I still have 25 days left Wink !
    Thunderbird 1:24.96
  • Spoonboy
@Ryoma I got 1:35.70 with the Oxia. Any excuse to drive this great car! Will they include it in the next season? Huh? Cars and rules for 2025
  • Ryoma
@Spoonboy I don't know, I'm not involved in the choice.
  • dreadnaut
You can be involved, @Ryoma! You can suggest cars, explain their strong points, maybe organise a race to test them — or ask @Cas about a using them for a Race4Kicks track.
  • dreadnaut
Experience: not sure why @Ryoma had a +1 on ZCT276, probably a mis-click? I've remove the point. @Spoonboy, no more XPs for you, you've been kicked out of the Amateur League! Grin
  • Ryoma
    @dreadnaut it's as usual...I don't want to choose between my 136(!) babies.

Sep 25

  • Spoonboy
@dreadnaut oh yeah! I think maybe I was getting confused between points and XP..
  • Duplode
Deadline day at Race For Kicks! There's still time to dart through September's track: https://www.raceforkicks.com/index.php?page=race&race=2024-09
  • Ryoma
Grrr ..in the last twin tunnel, I exit between the 2 tunnels Smiley
  • Spoonboy
@MortimerMcMire you've knocked nearly 20s off your original T-Bitd time! Great to see 8)
  • Mortimer McMire
Thanks @Spoonboy. I indeed can't complain about my progress in the last few days. I had some extra spare time so I've spend that "productive" Wink . Hopefully I can keep it up and knock some more seconds of my laptime in the coming weeks.
  • Alan Rotoi
@MortimerMcMire I would ask you to join our team but it's full. The same for @SteinViterbo. There is a thread about teams here and I would like to know your opinion. Once you join a team your performance grows exponentially. B teams

Don't remember. I made a car with stressed. But I save with 256 vertices and I can't open my file. How to proceed? https://mega.nz/file/1uARTTqQ#wN5OM0nFcYO8Rjtd50C095gp0VixComSWze34zSw_NM
  • Zapper
@Ryoma, there's not much you can do. Avoid this by having regular backups of VSH file (or imported OBJ files) specially when you suspect vertices are rising. Stressed saving operation doesn't tell anything about saving shape file in that conditions. Also its good not to close openned file unless it loads on a parallel stressed instance. Wink
  • Ryoma
I used the barbarian solution : do it again and best.I made the first 905. skidmc45.png
  • Duplode
@Ryoma One way to deal with a file like that is to fix it by hand on a hex editor: delete the extra vertexes, replace all references to them in the polygons/primitives, and adjust the vertex count. (It might also be useful to change the colour of the affected polygons, to make sure they're easy to find and fix when you get back to Stressed.)
  • Spoonboy
@Ryoma in testing 905 is impressive. Fast and steady. Also, the Gr5 is a rocket ship! Love the semi-digital display as with the Gr4. Legendary Stratos grip with 180+ mph, wow.
  • Ryoma
@Duplode I try with an hex editor and the wiki...but I lost myself. By the way, I redid it and it's ok. Thanks @Spoonboy....now I'm thinking of making the evo2...Aka airwolf

Sep 27

  • Ryoma
A big mistery...how Mark can be so fast with an automatic transmission ? It's awesome.
  • Alecu
I came back after a break!
    Thunderbird 1:43.53 A
  • Alan Rotoi
Nice to see you again @Alecu!
  • Alecu
@Alan Rotoi Thanks! I will practice also on older tracks, for fun and also created tracks for fun.

Sep 29

  • Spoonboy
@Ryoma are the 905 versions the same, or do they each have different performance?
  • Erik Barros
Nice to see your improvement @MortimerMcMire
    Thunderbird 1:20.16
  • Erik Barros
Congratulations @AlanRotoi, @Duplode, @MarkNailwood, @Ryoma, @MortimerMcMire and @Cas on the podium in the last race
  • Erik Barros
    Welcome back @Alecu
  • Ryoma
@Spoonboy 1st 905 are lower grip but same engine than evo1. 1st and evo1 are designed for Le Mans for high speed so lower acceleration. Airwolf has much grip and most powerful. It is designed for mid speed track, so the gear ratio is for 212Mph top speed.
  • Erik Barros
    Nice track @Frieshansen!!
    Thunderbird 1:19.26
  • Erik Barros
Nice work @Ryoma, it's time to update the car megapack Smiley
  • Ryoma
Thanks @Erik Barros wait one or two weeks. Sometimes, I did some corrections.
