Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention something: the new version also contains the car pack for Season 2023! Definitely should've added that sooner, but hey, better late than never! Might submit a replay today with one of the new cars... I've been having a lot of fun with the McLaren Honda!

Probably should've had audio on for this one... Judging how close I was to spinning out by visuals alone on a mostly-ice track was way harder than I expected.

"The replay does not look complete, did you cut the end short?" Why I have to read this? I did not take any shortcut. Race manipulation! Cheesy
  • Duplode
@Shorty Cheesy (If the replay is a complete one, it could have been affected by a very rare bug in which the game records 19 frames after the finish line instead of 20, messing up the completion detection. In that case, redoing the final seconds with RH usually solves it.)
  • dreadnaut
@Shorty Most likely, you hit Esc at the end of the lap, instead of waiting for the summary screen to appear on its own. That cuts the replay short.

Hey @Ryoma: I noticed you have some huge dast/dasm images in your car folder, like in the 312PB or those recent images with the rearview mirrors. How did you find the mystery bytes for those dashboard files?
  • Overdrijf
Never mind, I just learned that my entire car making life is a lie, mystery bites ate random junk and it's only the combination of the x, y, width and height values, with x and width being the trickiest, that can make a dashboard crash. Cool, more design space.

  • Overdrijf
He didn't make a post, he just edited the wiki. The "mystery bytes" for dashboards in stressed turn out to be internal coordinates that only matter for movable parts: dot and gnob. They define which pixel is put on the location specified in the .res file. If that sounds like Greek to you, or like Chinese if you happen to be Greek: it means one less weird worry when making cars.

Mar 10

  • Cas
Ha, ha... That was a test that should've been made long, long ago. About the second mysterious field set, the test threw nothing. Duplode does have some information that would suggest why we see nothing there and it really makes a lot of sense... only we can't test this. We have to read the source thoroughly. It's like virtual particles in quantum physics.
  • Alan Rotoi
The first live race of the year!
  • Ryoma
"i.e. the automatic transmission is unavailable to reach 6th gear" oO the 6th gear is like in real : too too too long ratio (same gearbox for zr1, viper and lotus omega)....for remind, all my car are similar to real : performance, weight, gear ratio and torque curve...but nobody wants to accept it.
  • Argammon
@Ryoma: We have to agree that people have different tastes and preferences. Broadly speaking there are three ways of looking at the issue:  1) The Ryoma way: Fine tune the cars so that their performance is as close to their real-life counterparts as possible. Advantage: Realism! Disadvantage: Driving 100 mph in Stunts feels slower than driving 100 mph in real life.
  • Argammon
    2) The Overdrifj way: That a car is fun to drive trumps any other consideration, for example realism. Advantage: Its fun! Disadvantage: Cars are unrealistically fast, for example the DTM cars. Moreover, what is "fun" lies in the eye of the beholder.
  • Argammon
    3) The Argammon way: The performances of custom cars should be relatively correct compared to existing original cars. Example: Overdrijf's DTM cars should only be faster than the Ferrari GTO if they are faster in reality. In any case, my approach would mean the DTM cars should be closer in performance to the GTO than to the IMSA cars. Currently, it is the opposite way. My approach seems to be a compromise between 1) and 2). The bottom line is that as there is no obvious correct way of looking at the issue, it is the author of the car who has the final decision.
  • Overdrijf
Addendum to the Overdrijf method: it's not just fun, it's also about the feel. The superkart is pretty close to the specs I could find for a real 250 cc superkart, too much grip probably, but that's more of an estimation error on my part, I wasn't the greatest driver when I made it. But the superkart also feels like something you might call a superkart. Whether your reference point is real karting or Mariokart, this is roughly what you'd expect. Modeling the DTM cars' performance more on the +-2018 era than on the +-1991 era I based their looks on because it makes them feel like race cars in the game. For my upcoming project I'm trying a slightly different approach to the problem, but basically that's the concept. The experience of driving the car "should" resemble the real life experience of driving the car.
  • Overdrijf
(Or, you know, at least the expected/perceived experience.)
  • Ryoma
@Overdrijf Thanks for your explanation and analysis. My puropose is to be more realistic when I got enough information (it's not the case for Turbo, KIFT, LC2, 637, 641 and 1000tipla). It's the main cause with the fail of the Stratos here. Too realistic and stradale than the other cars... and with a bad start bonus, it's impossible to win. But all my cars are almost realistic each other. Another example, the Mustang 350 GT was critized for being slow but remember that this kind of car is like our Fiat Punto.. A car for everybody...a poney car. After it became a Muscle Car but the first version was not quickly as we founded in Stunt Driver. (about 200HP SAE that means 170HP in real). Personnaly, in default track, I'm a little bit slower with compared to Alan Muscle Car pack. The Challenger is very very fast. So I do not understand the criticism about it and it's performance (it is not the GT500KR).
  • Daniel3D
I tried several Ferrari last year for the CCC. Zappers F40 is maybe to fast, but feels like an Ferrari. The GTO is a fine original.. but of the Ferrari I choose of you ryoma several feel unrealistic, they may be correct technically, but they don't feel that way. That is a real shame because are not nice to drive. And that really makes me sad, because I really appreciate your cars and the effort you put into it.
  • Duplode
@Ryoma The Stratos was not a fail! In particular, it would have won ZCT252 weren't it for a last minute powergear surprise, which is something that happens every now and then with all kinds of cars (see also: the Melange at ZCT251 )
  • Ryoma
@Daniel3D I am really not agree with you... Zapper made a marvelous F40 but the grip is closer to the IMSA. In reality, only the F40LM was closer to IMSA GTP in 1989. But it was a monster with two big supercharger and 650HP. If we want to compare, it's easy...like in 1990 : Countach vs Testarossa. The two cars are similar despite the avantage of 455HP. The grip are the same, the performance équivalent...why for you the Testarossa is bad? In real life, the GTO is more faster than the Testarossa (1150kg vs 1500kg, twin supercharger, etc....). I found that my Testarossa is closed to the NFS version which is reputated to be realistic. And remember that you drive in automatic which is unrealistic too and decrease the performance. @Duplode for me, it's a fail and the reason why I dont want to see my cars here, definitively.
  • Duplode
@Ryoma I'm afraid I still don't understand. What should have happened differently for you to consider the Stratos a success, and not a fail? (By the way, I'd say the *only* reason we aren't racing with the Stratos this season is because you asked us not to. It would be on the top of my list of custom cars nominations for 2023 otherwise.)
  • Ryoma
    @Duplode only one victory....
  • Duplode
That's not a measure of success, @Ryoma. There are 16 cars for 12 races; it is impossible for all of them to win in a single year. My Skyline didn't win in 2022, neither did the Melange. Besides that, the cars aren't competing against each other.
  • Ryoma
@Duplode in that last case, why there is some stats about podium cars and victory? My pleasure would have to see one on my car winning a race...it will never happend so.
  • Duplode
@Ryoma Well, bcause stats are fun and we like tables and pretty diagrams Smiley Just look at the car selection process in the Cars and Rules topics on the forum: it's the opposite of competitive, with people regularly arguing for cars from others ahead of their own, and looking for ways to ensure all selected cars have a fair shot. Really, there's no such thing as "it will never happen" -- as long as you allow us to
  • Daniel3D
@Ryoma We have a very different view on the cars. And that is OK. The Testarossa is a fine car by the way, and i already said that Zappers F40 is a lot of fun, but not realistic. I am not a car expert, not at all, even. I can not say how a car is supposed to feel compared to others or to the real car. I drive with automatic transmission because I am not capable of driving manual. I had a lot of trouble getting the 308 round the track, it doesn't feel right, and it has anti-PG which is annoying.

Mar 11

  • KyLiE
@Daniel3D, it's obvious that Ryoma's cars are designed to be accurate representations of their real-world counterparts within the limitations of the Stunts world. So the Ferrari Testarossa isn't the tyre-burning monster that you thought it was. If it bothers you so much, why don't you create a Daniel3D edition that goes and handles like a race car? This is a similar story to how Koenig Specials started. Alternatively, you could simply drive one of the many race cars already available in Stunts. Also, I think you're confusing the 308 GTS QV with the F512 M.
  • Ryoma
@Duplode It was painfull to see the the Stratos not in position to win so I prefer to stay on my position here. Particulary, I think that the initial bonus was very too low at the beginning. Same thing this year with the Pantera...and the LM002 bonus is very too high. @Daniel3D I am a fan of cars since 1989. The only Ferrari I drove was the 458. I updated recently some cars of mine to avoid PG and antiPG. But for the car I drove in the past, I feel the same feeling... Specially the CX. Use a normal car (Musa with skid) and a Ferrari, you will see the difference ! If my cars don't correspond to you, don't use it in your compétition but stop criticize them. @Kylie I am really not OK that people did their own version of my cars. I don't want to write "done by Ryoma" because it's not my point of view....but I don't want @Daniel3D modify my own version with irrealistic capability and write "tuned by Daniel3D". If need, I modify some car with bug like PG/antiPG or graphic (if that last case if the correction is made and documented, it's helpfull). But I don't want to see many versions of my cars..and if corrected...it shall be approved by me.
  • Duplode
@Ryoma (1) Okay -- I hope you'll reconsider someday, but as long as you don't feel comfortable with seeing your cars at ZakStunts we'll respect that. (2) A question about the Viper -- it's such an interesting car, and I'd like to get how that 6th gear is meant to work. Comparing the gear ratios with those on CarTest and other spec sheets, I noticed 1st to 4th are *very* close to the real specs, 5th is a little shorter, and 6th is somewhat longer. I suppose you could have raised the 6th ratio from 4340 to something around 5000 without noticeably changing the car behaviour (there's very little flat track acceleration on 6th no matter what) other than for the auto gears shifting... except, that is, if your intention was to make 6th gear (and PG) hard to reach in auto gears. Am I on the right track?
  • Daniel3D
Dear @Ryoma, I hear you. You put a lot of care and precision into your cars. The game allows for great accuracy and I respect your decision to seek it's limits. I did contemplate retuning some cars to make them drive more in line with the original cars and the unrealistic physics engine. Not because I don't like them as they are but to make them more accessible to a wider audience. But I didn't do it, for a big part because they were not mine and you were unavailable to give an opinion. You made beautiful simulation cars for a more arcade style game. As beautiful as they are, not many people will drive them. I think that is a shame. You said once that you had the feeling nobody cared about your work. I think that this is the reason. I will treat your cars with the same respect as you have with other people's creations. Maybe we should split the cars in arcade and simulation. As it is, not many of your cars will be used in the competition you inspired. I do thank you for your opinion and open respectful conversation we have had about this.
  • Ryoma
@Duplode I think it will be definitive... The malus -10 was very hard to accept and understand... For the Viper, the 6th gear would give 304mph in real (without air drag). It's a very long long long ratio of these ZF gearbox. This kind of gearbox was called 5+1. For the 5 first gear, the max speed are 57/86/117/152/206. For the 5th, I did not calculated the ratio at max RPM but HP max RPM. I used this rule because sometimes, I never reach the real top speed.... So the 6th gear is only used to reduce fuel consumption....like in real. @Daniel3D no I don't want to make arcade version of any of my cars.....if people are not happy, stay with the Skoda Felicia Kompressor.... And I am sorry but I have made some funny and powerfull car like Turbo (MP4/4 performance....), the two ECV, the LC2, the 637, the GTO Evoluzione, the 333SP, etc.....
  • Duplode
On the broader point, I don't feel there is such a general dislike of simulation-style cars. In fact, I don't think there is a hard cutoff between arcade and simulation. But if there is, please file the Skyline along with the simulation ones Smiley
  • Daniel3D
@ryoma, I'm sorry. I was to generalising in my previous post (I'm also sorry I didn't see it myself at first but it was pointed out to me and they are right). It's not that black and white as that. There are many cars in your database that are wonderful to drive. My initial expectations were wrong, and I am myself not a good driver and a bad judge in this respect. I don't say that you need to make arcade versions of your cars. If you consider them finished, then that is what they are. For this season I changed the rules of CCC to make every car equal in competition. That makes a lot of difference. And I really want to use your cars in the future. But I want to make sure they are in a group that compliments each other. I have my ideas and opinions, they are not always good ideas and in the case of your collection I already changed my view before your return. Still searching a bit for the right approach or context. But I love your work, I always have.
  • Ryoma
    @Daniel3D Without rancor so...
  • Duplode
@Ryoma (1) I kinda get your frustration about the -10, but that was one track designer among 11, for a single track, reversed in the next one. We're not going to override the designer on what they feel like doing with their track (and it's clear Akoss really wanted it to be an IMSA race); still, that individual choice doesn't reflect any kind of general feeling. (2) On the Viper: the very long 6th does make sense. Unless you actually want to make it unreachable on auto gears, though, you might want to consider raising the ratio to 5000. The aerodynamic resistance is high enough that it won't change the top speed: I tested it here driving on a banked oval, and couldn't get above 172 mph even after several minutes.
  • Ryoma
@Duplode I continue to try to understand what is the interest of decrease of 10% the bonus of a car with a top speed if about 160mph... Clearly the Stratos could not win this this kind of race with straight line. The conclusion is that the reason is elsewhere...but poo win...no car of mine would be here and he can be happy of that. Now, I am not waiting for answer. For the Viper, I prefer stay with that configuration....the 6th gear will be an award (useless lol) for people using manual transmission. I think it is the same for the Lotus Omega.
  • Duplode
@Ryoma On the Viper: perfect -- by the way, KyLiE updated the Wiki article to reflect that: https://wiki.stunts.hu/wiki/Dodge_Viper . The Lotus Omega is slightly different in that there's a little bit of acceleration on 6th gear, though, as you say, calling said gear useful would be a stretch Cheesy
  • Ryoma
For the Omega, it's because of a mistake when I filled the excel : confusion between max RPM and HP max RPM. I made the correction.

  • Reporting on ZCT258

Welcome, racers of 2023! A new season has started with a "Blast from the past" — and with a good reason. We have passed several milestones in the last couple of years. 2021 saw the 30th anniversary of Stunts version 1.1, ZakStunts itself reached its 20 year mark in the same year, and more recently we have reached 25 years from the first online competition in 1997, at the dawn of the internet. Inspired by that, I choose for my guest track slot a classic and personal favourite, CTRACK31 from Kalpen's competition in 2001 (to be precise, I picked CTK2003a, the Kalpen 2003 version of the track). I hoped it would be fun.

But wow... what a start of the race! This wasn’t mere fun — it was a frenzy, the battle for LTB starting way before the LTB time began running. The chat on Telegram played a role in that. It’s not the same as the old chatroom, but it is alive and brings new energy. Like Zak once said:

The key is the community. If a racer is addicted there's no escape The chat and forum presence is essential to be a regular racer (of course everyone compared to his available free time), and teamwork is the key to improve in results. The fourth generation, people have to raise their successors - they are the ones who will bring more motivation into racers.

On Telegram, many of the racers were present before the track was made public, speculating on which track it would be and how hard (I may have had a hand in fuelling that... while hoping it would indeed turn out nice). When the track went live, several racers jumped on it, looking for past Kalpen results as references and trying to work out which car would be best. dreadnaut did a good job balancing the cars, and there was never complete certainty about the best car having been found. Still, the fight was on, and two racers quickly went for the lead. In one corner, the returning legend, Argammon, and in the other corner, the current champion defending his title, Alan Rotoi...

The first 12 racers finished within 8 seconds of each other, indicating the high level of competition. Analysing the laps makes it clear that many battles were decided in the final sectors of the track. Notably, Argammon's shortcut around the south-western hill brought him from 0.20 seconds behind to 0.60 seconds ahead. In the end, though, it was Duplode who took first place in the decisive moments, largely propelled by the final high speed sector. Duplode was followed by Argammon in second and Alan Rotoi in third. The battle for fourth place was between Friker, KyLiE, Frieshansen, and Overdrijf. Meanwhile, the fight for the eighth position was contested by Mark Nailwood, Zapper, Deadnaut, and Ryoma.

Wait a second!? Mark Nailwood? Yes, it is the Mark Nailwood, champion racer, creator of Track Blaster and many other tools, of invaluable contributions to the continued success of Stunts. Hi, Mark, welcome back!

All in all, it was a thrilling start to the season, and an exciting glimpse of what's to come. With a strong community, fierce competition, and classic tracks to race on, the 2023 season is shaping up to be one of the best yet.

Hence I present to you the fastest, and so far also easily the shortest, episode of Stunts Pro Academy, on powergear. The track is Aburaf's Boulevard, and the car is the Indy, because everybody deserves an Indy warm up lap before having slide the Ferrari around a large maze. Get your practice during the public days, and who knows, the big boys might even have left something to be discovered in this month's powergear line.

@Overdrijf Are you sure that all four wheels have to be over a tile to reset penalty time counter? Isn't only one wheel enough? Also - 2x1 and 2x2 elements may be count as one element but gives 6 seconds penalty if I am not mistaken (opposed to 3 secs per 1x1 elements).
  • Overdrijf
I was reasonably sure it's not one wheel, because of ZCT256. We couldn't make the double dual way switch work with the tightest possible line, we needed to clearly touch the road before the jumping bridge. Although now that you ask that question maybe I just don't know the rules for dual way switching well enough and I'm not actually sure what happened. Maybe we should run some tests, something that distinguishes clearly between one wheel, center of the car and four wheels. (Because the borders between tiles are often in grass where you don't know quote where you are and because cars are quite small compared to tiles the difference is usually pretty vague and also hard to abuse on purpose anyway.) The 6 second thing could well be correct. But 99 times out of 100 you're screwed as soon as you get any penalty time anyway, so that's not terribly important. (Fun to know, but not something for the errata probably, where the four wheel thing would be something for the errata.)

It is the center of the car that matters. This Countach (@AlanRotoi, ZCT202) is in the light blue tile: wMBHMyF.png Whereas this Countach (me, ZCT257) is *not* in the tile highlighted in pink: gMsugAe.png
  • Overdrijf
Good info, also cool because in your second picture you can see that other staple of Stunts mechanics: the center of the car needs to be inside of a tile on a frame of time. In that second picture logically the center of the car moved through that tile, but the game didn't register it because it happened in between time steps. So I'm kind of content that my intuition told me "fout wheels", because that's roughly what that would feel like. Still probably a good thing to bring up in the next episode, even if only as a bridge to sub-frame timing on other elements.
  • Argammon
Very interesting! I think it would be a tremendous advantage having these borders displayed in game. In particular in case of a power-gear track.
  • Duplode
@Argammon Needless to say, it would be an illegal game modification to use that in competition, unless the manager added it to a custom game edition and made it explicitly allowed to use. @Overdrijf Well spotted: at 1:28.05 in the second replay, the car indeed is barely beyond the adjacent edge of the tile.

@Duplode thanks and sorry for the double post. Each Dauer 962 is different each other. That means different dashboard, two different nose, rear air exit present or not...etc https://dempseymotorsports.com/1993-dauer-962-le-mans-prototype-road-car/ Actually, I did as real by Dauer : I take the racing car and modify it. I have some difficulty with the cull data and radiator : it's create a glitch with car0. I did 6 colors : two yellow with and without air exit, red, green, grey and black. I will share on méga but it's not finish yet.

Hi Alan! My bicycle project is approximately at 37% But I lack the knowledge of modelling. The dashboard is better than before. I used several tricks to make the bicycle dash look good however I inserted a 320x1 black line to whl1-3 resources as I wanted to hide them to a non transparent part of the dashboard I added a box to the bottom part of the dashboard because I think it's impossible to make whl1-3 transparent

Welcome @GTAMan15! Gar disappeared because there was, afaik, no user-friendly way of verification. I would love to see a no-RH competition. So, if somebody could set up a server with RH disabled that would be very welcome! Smiley
  • Duplode
GAR going away was not mainly about verification, but rather about not pulverising attention over too many scoreboards, in particular given the revival of the Amateur League. We do have Race For Kicks, though Smiley https://www.raceforkicks.com -- last week of the current round has just started!
  • GTAManRCR
@Argammon and I would welcome a competition with 4D Sports Driving (Feb-25-1991) instead of Stunts 1.1 Smiley

  • GTAManRCR
4D Sports Driving (Feb-25-1991) is a rare version of the game, and shows full compatibility to Stunts 1.1, but no competitions use this version
  • Ryoma
What is the interest by this version ?

If you want to learn manual transmission, both GTO and Carrera are good cars for that I think!

Mar 24

  • Ryoma
@Dreadnaut @GTAMan15 I think the Challenger is the best car too learn : lot of torque at low RPM, only 4 gears, all the big turn in 2nd.

BTW, as @Overdrijf says this is a long track in which the more difficult parts are near the end, so there is plenty of room for gradual improvement with the GTO. (In fact, the track is long enough that it's possible to get powergear with the GTO on auto, though it takes longer reach and one has to be careful about speed conservation and taking most of the small jump opportunities.)

  • Reporting on ZCT259

Well well... ZCT259 has finished and left us a lot of interesting information to analyze, but first let's see what has happened in the standings. To no-one's surprise—but still surprising us all—Duplode won the race with an extraordinary replay, the only one driving the Corvette CERV III. His lap is truly magical, as magic as the carpet he used to skip a slow corner by flying over the water, landing back on the track. The type of trick we don’t normally see, coming from the pocket of a skilled magician like Duplode.

There was a huge number of replays this month: 173, the highest number since ZCT049 in 2005. The previous month was also unusually high (157 replays), likely due to dreadnaut's idea of the Car Podiums—we will talk about that later.

The podium was completed by Argammon (author of the track) and Alan Rotoi, despite not improving during quiet days. Along with these two, the rest of the scoreboard used the Lamborghini LM002, except for HunterBoy344 who came in last place using the McLaren/Honda MP4/4.

Moving away from stats and standings for a moment, Argammon explained his track design as an attempt to make both lanes of this dual-way track as even as possible when driving the LM002. Both, track and car, are the author's favorites. It should be noted that it is a legal and fully understandable decision. Many builders when building a track for ZakStunts look for a car or a series of cars to be used on them, sometimes it can go well and sometimes what is planned does not happen despite a meticulous preparation.

Continuing with the scoreboard, Friker came from the shadows and reached fourth place with a strong replay uploaded on the quiet days. Frieshansen, KyLiE and dreadnaut followed, also with quiet replays. There were few battles for positions outside the podium. Instead, there was a phenomenon generated by the new Car Podiums, a super successful idea from dreadnaut manager's mind—my most sincere congratulations. These new podiums per car allow us to have small quests or objectives within the same race, giving us the freedom to use all the cars, not just the best car for the race. We saw many pipsqueaks testing and positioning using a variety of cars, if not all. Here also appear Zapper (8th), Ryoma (10th) and Afullo (15th) and especially Shoegazing Leo (16th): he has always tested multiple cars in each race, as if he were the precursor of this idea. Overdrijf (9th) and Heretic (11th) kept a discreet participation this month, but still got points. I hope they'll have more time next month! Closing the points table was a young promise from the Doubleplusspeed team, Erik Barros, obtaining 12th place.

Stunts legend Mark Nailwood participated again reaching 13th place, 5 seconds after Erik Barros, but fastest among those using automatic transmission. He was followed by Rody, our new friend from Ireland, himself half a second ahead of Afullo. Completing the scoreboard, Cas took 17th place with a replay very early in the month, as so did Stan 286XT (18th), Shorty (19th) (with his fourth consecutive month since his return to ZakStunts), Daniel3d (20th) (testing several cars in the quiet days), and the aforementioned Hunterboy closing the scoreboard.

Only Argammon collected an LTB point, while Duplode finished just 20 hours away from it. Without a doubt we can conclude that Car Podiums have been successful in generating participation and spreading it among all the cars allowed by the competition.

Personally, I didn’t like this track. There was too much water, ice and straight lines, and not enough stunts. A positive note is that it avoided dual-way switching—OK, Duplode used it, but with a superb trick :D — In any case, it's hard for me to believe that those who spent some time on the track enjoyed it. It was more appropriate for a short event, rather than a monthly competition.

While statistics can’t tell us how much fun we had, they do show high participation. I think the factors that contributed to the huge turnout were the simplicity of the track, which I spent so much time complaining about, and of course the Car Podiums. Surprisingly, a track that is too long or one that is too difficult can see a high turnout.

If I have to rate the track as a player, it would not be low, but it has been a successful track. The 2023 season of ZakStunts is also starting well, not only thanks to the Car Podium. Participation picked up in late 2022, when ZCT257 saw 95 replays. There’s been many comebacks, new ideas, retro tracks, new pipsqueaks, projects, and new options on the site. It's a great year for ZakStunts and the community! Let's keep having fun, participating and strengthening our beloved community! Each project, each comment, each competition, each replay and each greeting counts to keep the flame alight.

In the future, we can make an openwheel cup with Indy, McLaren, Williams and others.
  • Duplode
@ShoegazingLeo From the late 80s/early 90s era alone we have at least four Indy cars and (with Ryoma's WIP Williams) three F1 cars, so that's very much a viable prospect!
  • GTAManRCR
If you make the tachometer rounded it'll have a better look
  • Ryoma
@GTAMan but it won't look like the original car... I try something but it's a fail...what a pity to not have digital tachometer

Mar 31

  • Duplode
@Ryoma What was the movement of the LCD tachometer in the real car like? (I couldn't find a video with a clear view of it yet.) If it was an arc, I wonder how well it would work if you (1) placed the origin of the needle at the "9" position, so that it would trace a secant rather than a radius; and (2) removed the tachometer numbers except for "9" and "15", as they are easier to place. That wouldn't be all that accurate, it might preserve something of spirit of the design, while avoiding the need of masking the needle movement with the black background.
  • Ryoma
@Duplode it's like the yellow car in Indy 500 or the corvette in the first testdrive. Some bargraph which light up. I tried something different from the mp4 or the 641...the car is on my mega. As the renault was known for it's drivability, I putted the torque constant. Need to work on the tacho....
  • GTAManRCR
The last day of March. What you think?
  • Overdrijf
What might help this meter with this shape look less cluttered is: -Only use the odd numbers -Use dots rather than stripes, so their directions don't look weird -Use a two color font for the numbers, so black and grey or black and dark blue or light blue and dark blue. That helps readability when your numbers are only 4 pixels high. I used this trick in the kart and in my current project. -use one background color, the black on blue on black looks odd. Blue letters (two shades of blue) on black or black letters (with dark blue as the secondary color) on blue.
  • Ryoma
For the moment, I stuck... 756595.jpg?v=1 I will apply the same solution than the 641 but flatted.....

    Happy birthday, @LA108!
  • Overdrijf
I see why you were doing the partial black now, there's supposed to be stuff in front of the needle. I don't have a solution for that, but as for the look of the thing, maybe something like this? Williams-screen.gif
  • Ryoma
@Overdrijf yes it was the idea.
  • Overdrijf
    Oops, double post, ignore.

Maybe with a blue needle? As a kind of compromise for not having a partially black screen? Williams-screen-blue.gif
