Quite an interesting car. Far from my taste, but still a decent one.

    Late happy birthday, Overdrijf!

My pc 80286 12Mhz fpu 10 mhz have 640kb memory+384kb expansion memory os DrDOS3.41. When I make chkdsk said 655.360 bites total memory 577.424 bites avable Why don't see 1mb ram?tere is? I have an ather bondwel superslim 1mb memory buy used os dos 5 installed from an expert see 640kb of memory If I found the sistem for see 1mb ram stunt go more fast?
  • afullo
I had 4m of RAM on my 486 in 1992, but chkdsk saw only 640k too. That was a limit...
  • dreadnaut
Yep, old hardware split the memory in different areas, some more difficult to use than others. The base 640KB is what most programs had to live with. But don't worry, Stunts can't use more than that, and it would not go any faster if it did Smiley

    Twelve hours left!
  • Duplode
Hello everyone! This is just a "Hey, I'm still here!" listfiller. I meant to resurface sooner but, as dstien would put it, I was distracted. Later in the month I will likely be able to show up more regularly -- and finish that Competition Archive update!
  • afullo
Like the first race of 2018... Smiley
  • Cas
Stan and Afullo: PC XTs were able to handle a maximum of 640K RAM because of the design of the 8086/8088 microprocessor. When more RAM was added to ATs (286s and later), new microprocessors were given a new way of handling RAM called "protected mode". Games made before that time or even some time after were created with languages that only used the old system, so couldn't access over 640K, like is the case of Stunts or utilities such as CHKDSK. This boundary, in the late DOS era, was called "conventional memory" and the rest was "extended memory". Because DOS remained a real-mode (non-protected-mode) system, some tricks were implemented so that DOS programs could access extended memory via drivers such as HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE (expanded, not quite the same). Many DOS games do require that.
  • afullo
I remember a friend of mine cancelling himem.sys "because I never use that", and then complaining why Windows 3.1 would not start anymore...
  • Cas
Yes. It was not trivial to an average user what that driver did. In fact, at that time, even though I was able to make my own programs and use DOS comfortably, I didn't quite understand HIMEM and EMM386. I'll create a topic in the forum about how DOS memory works and what can be expected from DOSBox, in case anybody is interested and so everybody can add and correct me too.

The first time I ran Doom in the 90s I had to perform some modifications in certain configuration files, otherwise it would not start. Old times...
  • dreadnaut
I dread pressing the "Publish quiet replays" button...
  • dreadnaut
But here we go, quiet replay published. And so begins season 2019!
  • Overdrijf
Congratulations on your second race victory ever! With the same car even...
  • dreadnaut
Thank you! I do find frustrating powergear laps somehow... soothing? So I actually try for longer than in other races Tongue
  • dreadnaut
Scoreboard confirmed and LTB assigned. I have also updated Stan's time, since looking at the replay in Stunts I got a different duration... I'll have to investigate that. New track tomorrow!
  • afullo
    Congrats, mate.
  • Alan Rotoi
Congrats dreadnaut! And of course it was an Indy race Wink
  • dreadnaut
New track is up, good luck everyone! If you get lost, blame Overdrijf Tongue
  • dreadnaut
    Thank you Alan! Smiley
  • Overdrijf
Speaking about getting lost, there's a slalom in the smooth sector I totally didn't mean to place. I somehow missed it among the mess of roads both when I placed it during the last quick edit and during the final lap of testing. ... It's a good place for it, I'm not complaining, I just can't take credit for it. Wink
  • dreadnaut
That's my evil little addition Tongue
  • Overdrijf
Ah, right. Well at least I'm not getting lost. Wink

P.S. There are a few squares that look empty. They actually have either a player or opponent car on them. This map does not do empty space.

  • dreadnaut
Now that was a bug I never noticed, and it's been there since... ever! Fixed now, might require Ctrl-F5 to show. Very well spotted Overdrijf!

Ha, ha! I love this track! It's a little late right now, almost 2am, but I'll be posting soon Smiley

  • Stan 286XT
and the ZakStunts crew whot says? Smiley
  • dreadnaut
Stan, are you adding penalty time when you upload your replay?
  • dreadnaut
Just to be clear: the field "Penalty time" is there if you cut the track and Stunts gives you extra seconds. It's not for the car bonus, which is applied automatically.
  • fx_undertaker
    yeah!

Feb 12

  • dreadnaut
Uh, hello there! That's a new flag on the scoreboard Smiley Welcome!
  • fx_undertaker
    shame on me !
  • fx_undertaker
best game ever ! I've dreamed of a site like this. Thanks to the moderator.
  • Overdrijf
It's a good month to practice both replay handling and dual way switching. Or to go GAR-rules if you like neither of them...
  • Heretic
Just a question: To submit a GAR lap, it's necessary to record the run and submit the video? I did not follow the last conversations about the subject and I did not understand very well... Welcome, fx_undertaker!
  • Overdrijf
What I picked up from the previous conversations is: "not really". It's cool if you do that, especially if you think you have a shot at winning, but the gentlemans' agreement mostly runs on the honor system. There used to be NoRH competitions that required hard proof, and the fact that it was so hard to prove NoRH driving is one of the reasons RH became the standard to begin with. But with most of us being a little older and calmer and less try-hard now the community has kind of let the need for proof go.
  • Seeker1982
1st reaction when I saw that track: wtf!
  • Cas
Welcome, fx_undertaker! And guys, I'll be preparing Race For Kicks for this season. I'll see if I can automate race start, but one way or another, there'll be a track in a few days Smiley

Feb 13

  • Cas
Guys, I would like to propose that, now that we seem to have many racers active at the moment, it could be a good opportunity to organise another live race one of these days! Cheesy
  • Heretic
Seeker1982 - the same for me hahaha Cas - live race? I've never seen before but sounds good to me!
  • Marco
A track like this one would require 20 years of studying to find the perfect fastest way Smiley . I have a question for Dreadnaut, have you discovered the Indy car by yourself in the previous circuit or it was a spoiler by others ? .Who creates circuits and who defines % can have an important advantage on other pilots. it could be an interesting solution to chose 12 cars at the beginning of the year and decide a fixed one randomly every race (maybe less funny but more honest for racer that are not part of some big team). Regarding the circuit, for my point of view, this one is too exagerated Smiley))
  • afullo
In fact, the system was recently modified in order to obtain more races in which the choice of the car is not obvious after the first few days. Wink
  • dreadnaut
@Marco Earlier during the last race, CTG posted an Indy lap. I took that as a starting point and I managed to extend the powergear stretch! @Heretic you can learn about live races on the forum: Live Races 2019
  • dreadnaut
Using Marco's instructions as a start, I have added the GAR rules to the wiki. Have a look, and let me know if there's anything to fix or add: http://wiki.stunts.hu/GAR

Feb 14

  • Seeker1982
I suppose I have the 1st GAR-time - I hope it's according to rules, but it's only my first run anyways
  • Seeker1982
Btw: do I see correctly that I don't count as newbie anymore? Last race (C210) I was still listed in the newbie section, but - at least atm - I'm in 2nd place overall but I can't see me in the newbie section
  • afullo
You have been here for 18 months by now, so you are not a newbie anymore...
  • Marco
So many thanks Dread for the Gar and the Indy explanation. I have seen the CTG spoiler too but i didn't believe in it !! Smiley Sigh
  • Marco
WOW Dread, is so great the GAR wiki that I'm suffering that you didn't specified that I'm the father Smiley) THANK YOUUUU SO GREAT And yes, Seeker is the GAR machine
  • Overdrijf
@Marco: There was a downloadable replay in "all results". Check that if you think a hint seems too subtle.
  • Marco
Hi Overdrijf , sorry I didn't understand your comment due to my bad english. Can you explain me better ?
  • Overdrijf
Next to "download track" there's a button labeled "all results". There you can see all the times people sent in, even if they were never there best time. CTG had submitted an Indy replay and made it public, it could be found by clicking that button. His comment in the shoutbox only served to make people look for that replay.
  • dreadnaut
I have been wondering for sometime whether a unified column with both messages and replays interleaved would make sense, mmmh.
  • dreadnaut
@Marco the GAR page is just a start, there is no history or explanation yet; Duplode can give an account if you would like to update that page, or any others! Smiley
  • Seeker1982
slightly faster time but - and that's more important - I'm certain I didn't violate the GAR-rules. My privious GAR-run was a bit risky in 2 places

Feb 15

  • afullo
@dreadnaut: as far as it will not interfere with the archives ( http://zak.stunts.hu/index.php?page=newsarc ), it could be tried, by just hoping that repeated submission of replays would not remove room for messages...
  • Overdrijf
I quite like the current setup with the latest results bit at the top, personally.
  • Marco
@Overdrijf Smiley How could you think that i don't know the existence of the "all result" button ?? Smiley I would never been in the first positions without studying and copying techinques from the masters of the game. Smiley)) Yes I understood, there was a CTG replay that i missed . Don't misunderstand me, I'm a lover and love all of my friends here. Because Stunts is a seriorus thing , I always love that everyone could have the same possibilities.
  • Marco
In 2016 there was a team Yellow Fleas with a very super strong visionary racer . Renato Biker. In his team there was a nice guy named Friker that for my point of view he was fast but slower than other racers of the championship. For my point of view he had the chance to see the Biker hidden replaies shared inside the team ... and finishing 2nd all the races behind Biker. This is a supposition that maybe dreadnaut can confirm being inside the same team. Did Biker used to share his replaies inside the team ? For my point of view sharing replaies inside the team is at the limit.
  • Heretic
Just a safe GAR lap... can be improved a lot
  • Overdrijf
I figured you knew that, but you asked me to expand upon what I meant, so I just tried to make it clearer. ... Yes, teams share their replays, that's what they're for. Friker and I shared replays when we were in Crashper's Domination, our very own newbie team. That's half the reason we started it, to share tricks and lines. In the current rules all the replays sent in during the first half of the month are automatically public and shared with everyone to give non-team racers the chance to learn from them as well. But teams still share the replays from the second half and things they keep hidden strategically. That's the point of teams. Doesn't Slowdrive do that? Friker was pretty fast on his own though, and tended to be pretty fanatical in the races he joined, so it's not like he wouldn't have been fast without a team or with a different team.
  • afullo
From the rules: "Team members may share their knowledge or replays, but it's forbidden to race in the name of another teammate, or to use a part of your mate's replay for continuing.". In my opinion this is an important part of teamplay, since it seems to be by far more difficult to let a mate improve with only theoretical advice.
  • Overdrijf
(Addition: In fact, Friker seems to have been most succesful in 2012, when he was registered as teamless.)
  • Marco
Yes, i was joking about "all result" Smiley . I named Friker, and i'm sorry for that because it's not here in this moment, but that situation was for me a clear situation to explain my feeling. In a so focused "single racer" championship , this team behaviour is not so good for me. Slower racer as I was can learn from public replays and then from the discovered hidden replays at the end. If there are some racers with equal skills that can fight for their position, with a so big help their competition is destroied.
  • Marco
Friker is surely a very fast racer , enough to take a too big advantage from a teammate like Biker. This would be the same for me but I would never take advantage by the replay of a teammate, what's the sense ? . The sense of a team is to drive at your best to help the team ... not to copy from the faster the hidden replays. Otherwise we can create a team with me you and Duplode or Biker and we finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd each races ... and the other racers can go home
  • afullo
Well, the idea is to construct balanced teams, in order to keep that competition also interesting; on the other hand, you cannot, but maybe Cas and Leo would be able to take advantage from your replays, if you share them privately with your teammates. In any case, a hidden replay is not "copied"; I can assure you that watching replays of Dreadnaut or Seeker helps me, but it is quite far from trivial to improve steadily just because you can take inspiration from them.
  • Overdrijf
Being in a team with Duplode I can attest to that. I can sometimes save a few seconds by using a cool trick he's doing, but I cannot for the life of me copy his replays. For optimal fun I try to be active early in the race, so I can try to find some of the cool tricks first and take credit when he does them too. Wink But the best times are the ones when you build on each others stuff, when you can find the next trick because someone else found the step before it, or when someone made an offhand suggestion that makes you think of something. For me personally teams add fun and value that way. If it's just about wanting to do good for your team I can just not be in a team and try to do good for me...
  • Seeker1982
@Heretic: I took over the improvement for you: ~12secs to be precise Cheesy - was my 1st run in the Ranger on this track using my racing line
  • Seeker1982
and a even faster one - a driven 2:49 GAR-lap in the ranger
  • Seeker1982
edit: I forgot to select GAR when I uploaded the replay - is there any way to fix this? When i try to upload it again using the GAR-switch it says it's already uploaded..
  • afullo
I think that Dreadnaut will be able to fix, but in the case you can rerun the last second of your lap by pressing once a different key, the final time should be the same but the lap would result being a different one for the system.
  • dreadnaut
    Fixed!
  • dreadnaut
Regarding teams: the point of teams is to share tactics and tricks. Preventing team members to see each other's replays would be ridicolous, akin to not allowing them to talk to each other. As afullo pointed out, seeing a replay does not mean a racer will be able to drive the same route, because of time, or skill. If they can drive it, they deserve the position on the scoreboard, whether they invented the route or not.
  • Seeker1982
let's see how the Ranger does in RH
  • Seeker1982
apparently quite well Cheesy - Screenshot - my first 1st place in RH for now
  • Overdrijf
    First act twist!
  • Marco
Create balanced teams could be good to help very slow racer . But for my point of view all racers might have this possibility while most of the slowest racers has no team and maybe they play hours to keep the 10th positions. So to see an already fast racer as Friker to play 15 minutes each month and arrive 2nd in a so competitive championship was not good for me. It's an opinion obviopusly . I have no problem to share my replays to Leo and Cas but i would never take advantage on other racers of the scoreboard following the hidden replays of Biker or Bonzai Joe or Duplode ... Biker or Bonzai Joe are able to find ways that others cannot think in all their life . I was able to beat Biker 1 or 2 times in my life and probably because he was not so focused in that race. It's not a little advantage to play with their replays
  • Marco
i add that i'm simply fast , I'm a Gar racer and not a main championship racer so my replays are no good for cas and leo because i don't discover fast ways. I copy from public replays also of slower racers than me but that are able to discover strange ways. My great friend Risto that won the 2017 champiosnhip was another big as Dup, Biker, Ayrton , eTC. Me not

Feb 16

  • Heretic
    @Seeker1982 - Nice, man!
  • dreadnaut
Marco, I don't know if you're aware, but you just sound bitter and envious. Trying to take the moral high ground by describing team sharing as unfair is just ungentlemanlike, and unfair toward your team, since you are fastest racer among them. I'm sorry I took your first place in the previous race, but please tone down the baseless accusations.
  • dreadnaut
And apologies if *I* also sound bitter, but I have a low tolerance to this kind of discussions.
  • Marco
I m the person that must apologie, not you. My bad english doesn t permit me to express myself with the real right terms and attitude. Very very sorry.but I also like to keep stunts as a super serious thing, increase the level of the competition Smiley)).
  • sd4000
    1st Race Smiley
  • Marco
I would like to better clarify. First of all I want to specify to all that you must not take me 100% seriously because I'm not ... if you check my FB channel you will understand that but this doesn' t change the actual situation. It's my fault to have let Dread to become upset here. Smiley. Regarding Dread last race winning. I started to speak about teams and I forgot to congrats with you and that's my real mistake. I asked if you had a spoiler by the maker of the circuit, it was not a good question to do but i did that thinking that maybe it could be accepted as it's accepted to share hidden replay. The answer that you simply paid attention to a CTG replay closed my mouth on that point. Max congratulation. I don't want to win at any cost, I'm simply a little bit entusiastic. I was the fastest on GAR and when Seeker came out i had no problem to say after 2 races that he was the fastest in the world. Never doubt regarding his behaviour and i have no doubt regarding the honest behaviour of everyone here . I speak about rules. LEt me explain better in the next post
  • Marco
In this champiosnhip there are several guys that play much more for fun and some guys that play at their best. The difference could be personal skills on GAR while in this championship is much more the time that you spend on the game (and then obviously experience and skills). In the high part of the scoreboard, when there are people like Duplode, Biker, Finrok etc., you must be perfect and this means perfect accelleration, perfect change of gear , perfect turn on every sector of the track...this means run the same sector several and several times. Perfection needs a lot of time if you are good, much more if you are less good but anyway a lot a lot of time. In the high part of the scoreboars when there are these racers , the competion is real, is at the best if you want to stay with them. So If you are able to stay in the high part of the scoreboard, you perfectly know who is a little faster then you and who is a little slower than you. When you play for hours in a month to reach the 2nd position and you see other racers that are light slower than you that easily overtake you each race ... your feeling is bad. I'm not accusing these racers, these are the rules , i'm doing a consideration regarding the effort spent . So for my point of view, the team mate sharing is great for the 95% of the situations but in the very high part of the scoreboard could become frustrating. It's my personal opinion of a personal experience. I named Friker but I'm not against Friker ... Friker run 5 races and then stop in 2016, I finished better than him in the championship. So Friker didn't take real advantage . I named him only to explain what i wanted to say. Eacers as me or Friker stay in the second line of the fastest, this means that we are faster as the first line but we don't know the limits and time points as the best racers. Having their replays give to us an incredible advantage because knowing the limits point we are able to gain them and playing only a half hour each month we can do a better championship that we could do alone and playing hours and hours. Don't take me so seriously because I'm not angry if I lose , now i'm playing for fun, I'm retired from strong competitiion because it's too hard for a 44 father. I'm here because I love you

    new GAR-time
  • Marco
Seeker, you can confirm my real attitude regarding competitions. You entered in this site as a Rookie few years ago. In that moment I was the fastest Gar racer (and i felt very good in that role Smiley)) but i had no problems , after only 2-3 races, to friendly admit that you were the fastest Gar racer in the world without excuses and without never suppose anything against you. I showed your run on my FB page too celebrating a new GAR champion.
  • Seeker1982
yes, and I do miss that competition in GAR. Btw: As this seems to fit here I have to come clean: I probably spend more time in stunts than most guys here since I have since end of 2018 a employment disability pension and was unemployed since 2011 - I have Asperger-Syndrome, I am a 2e (gifted in at least one area but have one or more disabilities hindering normal work/learning) and in mid 2016 I had a stress-based Psychosis (which btw is almost cured - since last week I could reduce my neuroleptica to the minimum dosage so I have more energy etc. - almost back to my old/former self). But that doesn't mean I watch tv all day - actually quite the opposite, I used my time well to vastly improve my knowledge in all kinds of health-issues to the point I could make a living as e.g. Health-Counsellor and Personal Trainer. I only have Internet; I nether have tv nor radio
  • Seeker1982
forgot to include: one prominet characteristic of being 2e is having your strengths and weak points VERY far apart. In certain areas/tests I can achieve results that normally would imply being highly gifted (working memory, language skills) but in other areas i'm borderline mentally handycaped (I remember one test on a bad very stressful day that I only achieved a result of ~75IQ in a certain test) That's dispite me having achieved a title as System Engineer for (IT)Networks (I'm a Microsoft-certifed IT-professional - MCITP Enterprise Administrator to be precise) and - after many detours including a Certificate of Secondary Education (Hauptschulabschluss in german) - achieved a Advanched technical collage entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife in german)

  • Marco
That's a live Video were i have run a Gar lap and showed the Seeker replay as an example of Gar perfection . I can improve for sure, maybe 2 or 3 seconds but it would be a too big effort and tons of trials and never enough to win against Seeker anyway.
  • Marco
Anyway, following strictly rules, Seeker you have had a very little jump from the first halfpipe on exiting, no advantage for that because you had to brake fast but this would be technically not valid if the jump is confirmed.
  • Marco
Hi Heretic I checked your GAR replay, you are a very nice and clean racer. There's only an attention point on the first corckscrew , you exited without pass the perpendicular line with your tires . To be honest some pixels of the roof of the truck due to his height in the oblique position are over the line . it's a particular case, because GAR is OPOOT i consider it valid , anyway you had no speed up from that. Very nice lap
  • Marco
Opsss, i just noticed right now that my Gar lap is not valid ... 1.15.85 , no pixel in contact with the road !!! Sorry, I will run a better lap to cover it ...

Feb 17

  • Marco
Here it is and ... yes i think I did a very nice lap. Seeker I used a different path that seemed to me faster. Can you try that?
  • dreadnaut
@Marco First of all, I am glad I misunderstood your messages from the previous days. No offence taken, and I hope it's the same for you. Regarding the "team advantage", having been in different teams over a number of season, I think what you say can happen, but it happens on much smaller scale than you imagine. Teams help much more in the "experimentation" phase of the track, in the early days, when you try different cars and routes. And working as a team, it is easier to find unusual tricks. The "optimisation" phase of the race is much more dependent of personal skill, patience, and time availability.
  • dreadnaut
I did feel, like you, that ZakStunts can be hard for newbies, and that's why I pushed for public replays years ago. That makes exploration visible to everyone, in a team or not. Secrets are still possible, but they have a cost in LTB. If you go back and look at past races, you will see that in most races the final "driving line" is known to everyone, but times vary based on time and skill. Surprises, or "team surprises", are rare exceptions.
  • Seeker1982
I closely watched my gar-replay - yes apparently, I did a minor jump since I could hear it bump, but at that point I already was on the brakes for the sharp corner, so I don't see any possible advantage besides being able to arrive on the sharp corner slightly more on the outer side and therefor "straighten" it a little bit more. But I gonna do a new GAR run just for fun using your path. I'm kinda courious if your way is faster if driven to the max. I'm quite used to my way which I also used in the main championship
  • dreadnaut
Regarding the Yellow Fleas, I was surely the newbie in the team, but you place Renato on a pedestal too tall. We all experimented, discussed, and contributed. Those with stronger skills, more experience, and more time would achieve better results, and that's all.
  • Seeker1982
new GAR-time Wink Very close at a certain point but I think it's valid
  • Stan 286XT
Why competition track is not for all kind ok car?

We have a system of changing bonuses Stan. Because it's impossible to find perfectly fair bonuses for every track and so that we get to use different cars every now and then. When a car does not end in the top three it gets a bit more bonus in the next month. If a car does finish in the top three it drops down. We changed the system this year to have less change, which will put the cars closer together and will give every car a longer period over which it is relatively close to the front of the pack and useable, but it takes a while for the new system to have full effect. I'll try to do a Lancia lap soon to give you an idea of how much you can gain by switching cars (the ranger drives quite a bit like a rally car) and how much of the difference could be made up with driving skill, replay handling, looking at replays for good lines etc.
  • Overdrijf
I did a 2:38 driven time, 2:13 after correction. I was typing out a whole beginners tips section here for you, but then I remembered you're having that game speed issue and your own driven time is actually around 2:36 driven so you're actually faster in the Lancia than I am, so I should not be giving you tips. If you can get that speed issue resolved within a few months you could be a legitimate contender for leading time bonus if the Lancia comes up about half a year from now. But I finished that piece of text I was working on anyway and I'm including what it because it might benefit someone else maybe. ... (DELETED SECTION:The replay is available by going to "all results", there's a download link for every replay on the right side. Try going to any point in that replay and selecting "continue driving" from the replay menu. That's what we call replay handling. See if with enough tries you can get the car to corner at the same speeds as I'm doing there. Ones you have a feel for that way of driving you can improve your own replays that way. Start from the beginning and try to make every corner a great corner. When you're not happy with a section, try again. If you are happy with how you did a longer part of the track in one go, great! Be sure to save your replays regularly, because it happens that you accidentally press "restart driving", at which point you'll need to reload the replay you were working on. Using even just a little replay handling will allow you to drive much more full out with no risk and push for much faster times.)
  • Overdrijf
Fun fact: your actual time after correction would be 2:11.12, if I'm mathing it correctly, putting you just above Cas on the scoreboard as the fastest automatic time.

Hi Dread and All , oh yes , absolutely misunderstood Smiley but as i told you later, I know it was my fault, so I could never feel offended myself Smiley. Leo is a great man and I'm very sorry that I could not spend time for the team, it's a problem that i have few time with job, family, sons. I could simply be fast as much as I could to increase point for the team. Sometimes I was asked to change team, for example to make an italian team, it sounded super great but I always refused to do not leave Leo Smiley ... maybe it would be better for him if i left Smiley. Special secrets aside, i think that the main skill on the main championship is the knowledge. You can run the first straight in 10 seconds and think that's good and that you have accelerated and changed the gear perfectly. While the super knoledged driver knows what's the perfect accelleration of each cars and after one trial he knows the target of perfection that maybe is 9.80. Before to pass to the next section he finds that limit. Regarding my little experience i think that Duplode is Federer here but Renato Biker was able to find an unbelivable speed for what i have seen on his replays. Yes I agree, LTB reduces the impact of special secrets maybe known by 3 or 4 pilots. Let's go race drivers
  • dreadnaut
@Overdrijf I can't tell if Stan's replay is "slow" or normal. He reaches the road sign at the end of the first road sign after 10s, which is the same time I get starting a new lap. @Stan, could you drive a lap and compare "Stunts time" with "real life" time, for example using a chronometer?
  • Overdrijf
*Downloads Stan's replay* Oh, yeah, I don't know if it's because of computer issues (laggy controls and such), but that 5 minute time seem to be the same minutes we use. (Evidence: I don't hear accelerating sounds often enough, and Stan is driving around the jumping bridge because he doesn't have enough speed to jump it.) In that case Stan, all the advice between brackets is for you after all. You seem to be driving NoRH style. That means: when you crash you start over. This track is too complex and too long to be driving that way with either your current skill level or the way your computer messes up your play experience. So you drive too carefully just so you can make it to the finish line. (Keep an eye on any messages Cas sends about Race For Kicks, those tracks can be slightly more NoRH friendly.) So I would suggest trying what I suggested in the other message: Try to see if you can drive lines closer to mine, and just rewind if you fail. (Maybe don't literally start from my replay because I was driving manual, but try and basically be in the same gear at the same points.) You're letting go of the gas waaaaay too much. This is a slow car with good cornering, you can keep your foot down a lot more. The whole "rollercoaster" pasrt of the track, with the banked corners, you basically don't have to let go of the gas there at any point. Good luck, and never stop improving!

(And on a final note: don't feel bad if you lose a race around here. After all, we're basically in a world championship. Wink)
  • Overdrijf
On an even finaler note: I have no idea about things like how good your English is, so don't feel bad either if you don't understand everything I write. I have a habit of saying things in a more complex way than strictly needed. (Evidence: this note.)

Tiniest change: @something should now appear highlighted here in the shoutbox. Refresh the page if does not.

What are you refering of, Dread?
  • afullo
    @Marco appears in yellow Wink
  • Cas
Wow, guys... lots of messages since I last wrote. I spent some time reading them. I'm very happy to see so much activity this year. About the time one dedicates to the game, that's pretty true. I don't spend a lot of time to get my replays. The times I've done it, I've improved. Yet, even that way, I've never been as good as the top players. I like participating and trying different tracks, but I have to admit I'm better at designing tracks and tools, among other things. I'll make sure to open Race For Kicks very soon. So be ready Smiley Dreadnaut, I like the @yellow effect for directed messages!

At least not on the mobile. I check on the pc later

Try to hard refresh the page (not with a simple refresh: purge also the cache of this page). On PC it is usually CTRL+F5, on mobile I don't know but it can be done too...

Now we can draw images in the chat. Two color images, but images nontheless. Like say: @this @dodo bird, which I drew using nothing but @text @and @toomuch time. The downside is it takes@quit e a bit of text to draw anything. Like this ne@ck, for instance. It's a total hassle. To make it @worse, the preview function doesn't @show @what @thela yout is going to be like, @so @this @could @end@up looking like a total mess, @rather @than @a @cool image. But it's nice to have tried @anyway, @be cause I can. Boy, I sure hope it still loo @ksl ike something by this point, or else this was@am assive waste of time, and we wouldn't want that. @Would we? Anyway, enjoy this dodo bird, see you next time on drawing with drivers.

On my tablet I can't see @ in yellow: it seems that a hard refresh is by far more difficult with Chrome on Android. Clearing ALL the cache, which is easier, only for one site, is "a bit" overkill...

It might make the change itself after a while. My phone did so as well. Or maybe close and open the browser, little tricks like that?

It seems to me that I'm the oldest active pilot here. Stan is close but ... I remember when I wrote to Zak to say the Anelio was for my point of view a fake . I could not believe in his age/performances. Then i met his FB page and it was a great day. We miss Anelio, he plaied with us till the end. It was a pleasure and a great honour to meet him in this life. He deserved a victory that never arrived.
  • afullo
Yes, after a while it would update anyway. I tried several tricks, but it seems that recent versions of Chrome cache very aggressively. Maybe Firefox is more conservative...
  • afullo
When Anelio was playing I played only for trying the tracks, racing every month but often just with only a single weak replay. But I remember that he was beloved by all the community.

I could see yellow from the first moment. I use two browsers: IceCat and Tor. Both are variants of Firefox, so I expect Firefox would react the same way. But one think I have to mention is that I always configure my browser so that cookies and caché get erased when the browser is closed. This may have to do with the thing. By the way, definitely, AbuRaf was arguably the most loved member of our community!
  • afullo
If you erase all everytime, is by all chance likely that you get always the more recent version of a page, though at the cost of longer loading times, and the need to login at every access.

    new GAR-time/record Cheesy
  • Cas
Yes. That is exactly what happens. I prefer it that way because most sites today have beacons and you get tracked by IP. I don't think I currently run any risk for being tracked, but I don't like it when I'm forced to do something, so I just go rebel Smiley I'll give my info when "I" want Cheesy

Guys, I was exchanging a couple of PMs with Dreadnaut about an idea. He said I should create a post about it, so I did. Here it is: The Protocol - Ideas on unification and integration
  • Seeker1982
when i try to open that postit says error occured as the forum is almost empty for me - it only has a section for the 2019 Competiton and my team, all the other stuff is missing..
  • Marco
Seeker is trying all the cars ever existed on this track. Seeker are you not suffering fingers pain ? . After a hour of strong play my fingers start to complaints
  • Marco
Uhmmm ... Dread, are you preparing a new shocking victory ? Smiley What's the car ? Smiley)) I'm joking my friend Smiley
  • Marco
Oh, I have seen that the multiple cars chosing was introduced in 2008 . Earlier was fixed car. There are really beautiful circuits from the past . Why don't we run an old circuit as a revival . An old circuit of the 2001 maybe . We could think of that for the 200 race, it would be a celebration. i want to make a circuit ... I don't like long ones , I try

Who knows the real name of Ayrton ? I mean Ayrton the 2008 champion that won all the 12 races
  • dreadnaut
I got down to 1'44* with the Indy, but you'll never see my replay, muhahhaha. (* driven time)
  • Cas
Ayrton was a very mysterious guy. He never spoke. Well, at least, I never saw any message written by him. Nobody knew his real name, I believe.
  • Cas
Thread still in the forum. Why can't Seeker see it?
  • Seeker1982
using my Firefox 60.5 esr with my normal (non-work) profile without having clear the cache etc. I can't see most of the forum - only the section ZakStunts Competition 2019, TeamTalk of my Team (Rolling Stuns) and the Stunts Forum Info Center. But I just tested viewing the forum with MS Edge and my work-profile of Firefox 60.5 esr - with both everything looks normal, nothing deleted etc

The fact that the website supports a larger character set doesn't mean that your OS will have fonts that cover those characters. The squares are characters for which the font has not glyph.
