    Happy birthday, KaoS and Chachan!
  • Reporting on ZCT226

We have just witnessed the end of an epic battle between the F40 and the P962 or Seeker vs. Duplode!

The big question loomed: would Seeker make a second major victory? Or would Duplode prevail as he has done time and time again this season? Ultimately it was Duplode's very skilled lap in the F40 that stole the show on the last day, including a perfectly executed loop trick!

As usual, our other highly skilled pipsqueaks Overdrijf, CTG and Dreadnaut followed up the top 5. Cork's Crew continues its winning streak in the team competition, slowly widening the gap with Rolling Stunts and the other teams.

Also witnessed a great display of GAR laps, with the Trueno a clear favourite (congrats Seeker!) and the welcome return of Marco.

It pleased me to see such enthusiasm and skill used on my very own track designed around my home country! Now we move on to the Jungle. Gentlemen, start your engines!

  • dreadnaut
I corrected the display issue with LTB hours mentioned here: http://zak.stunts.hu/index.php?page=newsarc&year=2020&month=4#day-6 — However, I also discovered I had forgotten to update the carry-over hours at the end of ZCT225. That's fixed too, and did not lead to any point updates ?
  • KaoS
Well this will not be a good map for me xD
  • dreadnaut
Let's put something on the scoreboard at least.

Happy birthday, KaoS! -- Mm... no GAR laps yet? I tried to post one yesterday. I think I'll try again.

I can't load L8.rpl GAR LAP Uploader say incomplete I send L8.rpl gar at replays@stunts.hu I wait upload!!!!! I do MY BEST!!!! Olways whell on ROAD!!!!
  • afullo
Try to rerun the very latest seconds. Ok, it would technically broke the GAR paradigm, but if it is for uploading issues...
  • Duplode
@Stan286XT In addition, you might want to post your lap at the forum, so that we can have a look at what is going on with it.

  • Duplode
And yes, GAR here is an *interesting* challenge.

    > replay not upload? send to replays[AT]stunts[DOT]hu this is the way !!!! on my pc run fine a intel 80286 640kb of ram!!! Please L8.rpl GAR lap
  • dreadnaut
@Stan I don't think that email address still works, I need to remove it from the page. Try afullo's suggestion: rewind the last second or two of the lap, drive through the finish line, and *wait* for the scoreboard to come up, do *not* hit Escape early.
  • Seeker1982
Duplode is right, it's not the easiest track to race but that's what it makes interesting

I'm happy to read that you guys enjoy the challenge in this track Smiley I made it with the intention that it'd be challenging, precisely, and thinking of providing a different experience for GAR and non-GAR and depending of the car too. It wasn't my intention to make it GAR-unfriendly, but just "GAR-special".
  • Cas
On another topic: I've just uploaded a beta for the new version of Bliss (2.5.5) on the forum. It includes trackshots out of selections, text-split format and UTF-8 support. I'd like to know if it works well for you guys. Cheers!
  • KaoS
Thank you for you Birthday-Wishes Smiley.

I'm going to go and be a big tad cryptic here. I have an idea I've been sitting on for the better part of a year now for how a grid based track editor for a racing/vehicle game could be made that retains the ease of use and low learning curve of a traditional grid based system while allowing for more complex tracks, with a diversity of possibilities closer to more complex non-grid based editors. Yes, I think I found a way to improve on the perfection of Stunts. I must be delusional right? The idea is looking for a good home, where it can end up in a full game that people can play. Because that's what game ideas are for. If you have a good home for my idea or a tip on a development team that you think would be a good place for it I can be reached via pm over at the Stunts forum. I'm not looking to get rich of the concept, I understand that video game mechanics traditionally cannot be patented and racing games with track editors are a niche concept, but I would like to be involved in development in some way.

What plays on my mind over the years is and has been visited + re-visited so many times with no results is a remake of STUNTS / STUNTS 2.0 . My ideal idea of a successor to STUNTS is keep the same simplicity of the game, even the same cars! Set the game in the year 1990, but all graphics and physics are replaced with that used in BeamNG drive. Keep the scale correct (I have seen many STUNTS attempted remakes that get the road scale completely wrong). There could be a realistic damage mode, classic mode, multiplayer mode. It would be soooo much fun. But the core principal should remain - keep the layout and track appearance SIMPLE! I believe this is what made the original so good
  • afullo
There is an old topic in the forum on the theme: Stunts sequel projects . Ultimate Stunts was quite promising in my opinion, but its development is proceeding very slowly, the latest version 0.7.8 dates January 2017, and the previous subversion 0.7.7 was released in September 2012...

Stunt 2005 run fine whit intel 80286?
  • afullo
The webpage linked on the forum seems not to be active anymore, but I don't guess so, since it was intended as a modern remake; furthermore, I am not aware of Linux distributions running on 286, although older processors are supported better than by Windows or Macintosh.

I had an idea and I posted some code some time ago... I could post it again. I made a super simple 3D engine and managed to render some Stunts-like graphics. It works based on 3D objects that are similar (but different) in structure to those of Stunts. I had to create a few to make the test. The engine is not perfect. I have a problem with objects that are in the same tile where one is standing, but even without optimisations, it runs reasonably fast on an average computer of today for a game to use it. If I optimise it, this could work on older systems (though not on a 286). I think all this should be discussed in the forum. I'll PM Overdrijf and maybe we could start a new topic.
  • Overdrijf
I'm not quite willing to post the concept publicly yet, but I'm making a document explaining the whole thing to send to Cas. If you're interested and you want the document as well give me a shout (and an email address). Note that by asking for the document you accept that you're under a confidentiality pinky swear, promising not to publish any novel and non-obvious parts of the concept in text, game or any other form except with my permission or after it has been published elsewhere.
  • Cas
Ha, ha... yes, of course. I am very jealous of my information, so I more than understand you. Yesterday, I sent you a (very long) PM in the forum telling you about the project I had before, but yes, I'll e-mail you to see what yours is about. Oh, I'll check the PMs first, just in case. I don't know if I can help, but maybe I can.

Wow! I have to sit and watch all the replays. I've let them accumulate here Tongue -- And about Bliss... I found the problem. Now the link is working. But I've found a couple of serious bugs in the new version. I've fixed some, but I want to make sure there are no more before posting a definitive update.

Scoreboard confirmed! Congratulations to Duplode, Seeker1982, and CTG!
  • Reporting on ZCT227

From the outset, it was clear that Cas' ZCT227 would be dominated by powergear cars, and decided on its very powergear unfriendly final sector. CTG solved it in style, with a specialty high-flying Acura helicopter cut. His lap proved unassailable, even with the rest of the field having oodles of time to react. The closest racer on the same car was Duplode, two places and 4.55 s behind. Splitting them was Seeker1982, with a strong Ferrari GTO lap. The Acuras of dreadnaut and Overdrijf completed the top five.

Seeker1982 remains firmly in control of the GAR challenge, this time having conjured a staggeringly precise GTO lap in what was a challenging combination of car, track and rules.

The checkered flag of ZCT227 brings us to the halfway point of the season with no clear leader in the yearly scoreboard. In the team standings, Rolling Stunts had the upper hand on Cork's Crew, narrowing the gap to the top spot.

As the season approaches its business end, a number of unknowns awaits the pipsqueaks who will tackle ZCT228, one of them being the car choice. While it is quite possible the Vette will hold on as a viable powergear car, there are plenty of other options with high bonuses waiting around the corner. Much will depend on what afullo will devise for the new round. Let's see what July will bring!

  • dreadnaut
And the new track is up, thank you @afullo!
