Let's see whatI'll be writing about...

Nov 15

  • dreadnaut
Quiet replays published, update later today!
  • CTG
@Duplode & @Seeker1982: although its the task of the track designer, but I give you the opportunity to adjust the car coefficients for ZCT233 (+5/-5 for both of you).
  • dreadnaut
? Whops, replay verification trouble! ? @Duplode & @Overdrijf, Stunts is not able to play your laps until the end. This is one of those powergear sync issues, which I also encountered earlier in this race (I had to redrive my lap three times on 20 Oct). Duplode's lap works at double speed, but I don't think we can consider it valid. I'd like other people to give it a try, and verify my verification. Replays can be downloaded as a zip file, or on the "All results" page.
  • Overdrijf
My lap, at least on my copy of Stunts, works if you play it on single speed. It crashes on fast forward and on double speed. Personally I would suggest counting Duplode's lap as valid from your description, because you found a way to replay it, verifying that he hasn't cut off any part of the post finish second, and to the best of my knowledge there is no way to create a replay where you actually crashed after 30 seconds but the timer kept running anyway, not to mention that it still registered all the key presses needed to make the car finish after that point, which would be insanely inhuman difficult to do on a run where you actually crashed but the replay didn't end somehow leaving you playing with no visual feedback whatsoever. On the other hand, this wouldn't be fair to you since you redrove your lap three times, so I'm fine with whatever you think is fair.
  • Overdrijf
(Also I wrote the news article, but I'll hold off on that for a little while now. We can't have me claiming to be exactly tied with you if I'm actually several points behind.)
  • CTG
If there is a way to watch them (even if with 2x speed), I suggest to accept those replays.
  • Duplode
To make my lap play to the finish, wait for the crash, then rewind to ~0:29 and play at normal speed. It's harder to make @Overdrijf's lap work reliably; here, one approach that has worked at least some of the time is loading the replay from the Options menu (which leads to a cracked windshield), rewinding to somewhere between 0:21 and 0:23, forwarding the tape to 0:25.80 and playing at normal speed from there. (In a successful playing, the car goes over the bridge, rather than crashing on the inside of the left wall, or on the outside of the right wall.)
  • Duplode
(P.S.: That said, our laps do push against the limits of the game engine, not to mention the patience of the race steward, and personally I'm also fine with whatever the final ruling will be.)
  • dreadnaut
@Duplode, I can get your replay to complete with your instructions, but @Overdrijf's still doesn't. For me the jump is not a problem, but the car crashes on the side of the ramp that follows the cork l/r. The issue is not covered by the rules, so I think it OK to keep both in play this time. However, we should decide on a rule for the future. I don't like the idea of archiving replays that don't work unless you know the secret.
  • Overdrijf
Oh... When I was working on the replay the issue was with the bridge only... Huh?
  • Overdrijf
I am just on my regular copy of Stunts by the way, not like I decided to do this one in BB 1.0 or something...

Nov 16

  • CTG
    @Seeker1982: could you please give +5/-5 % car coefficient modifications for ZCT233? Duplode's suggestion: +4 Mercedes, +1 Jaguar, -1 Ferrari GTO, - 1 Audi Quattro, -1 Corvette, -2 Superkart.
  • Seeker1982
i was so devastated by lasts races final results (Z231) I stopped playing stunts, at least in the main comp mode (replay-handlicng + cutting etc allowed)Therefor I'm not really able to give references instead I focussed on my Facebook-page
  • CTG
Too bad... Sad However, you should gather your energy and try to take the championship title. You still have the chance.
  • Overdrijf
You need to score at least 11 points to do it (I ran a bit of an analysis for writing the news), but that's including leading time bonus, so it's certainly possible. So I would suggest just giving bonus points to whichever car or cars you like, most cars close enough currently that a few points could make them competitive depending on the track. (Also, sorry I devastated you. Sad I can get quite motivated by having a time to aim for.)

Nov 17

  • CTG
Something is still missing from Season's standings - my 99/90 pts should be 101/92 with ZCT232 LTB. Or maybe I missed something in the Rules section.
  • dreadnaut
Scoreboard confirmed then, congratulation to CTG, Duplode, and me Smiley — Do note that @Duplode's and @Overdrijf's powergear replays require some fiddling to play through. I would appreciate if you both could record a video of the process (including replay loading, rewinding, etc.), publish it on Youtube, and linking it in the track's forum thread.
  • afullo
CTG, it's 101/101, since nine results (and not eight as in remote past seasons) are considered for the "real" score...
  • dreadnaut
And now the last track of the season! ZCT233 is ready. Thanks go to CTG. Or curses, if it's as difficult as it looks Tongue
  • dreadnaut
@afullo and @CTG: yep, the score was incorrect earlier, I had not refreshed the table after adding CTG's LTB points.
  • CTG
Erm, what happened to the original track? It looks like a mirrored one. The loop jumps were not planned like this (no inner loopcuts in the original version).
  • dreadnaut
Oh, I didn't realise! I have restored the "handedness" of the track, and unfortunately had to delete @Afullo's replay. Sorry about that ?
  • CTG
    Obviously wrong car. Grin

Here's a video: That's how it behaves on my PC-Dosbox-Stunts-framerate-whatever combination.
  • Finishing off the year of the virus

This month everything linked up for CTG, who really connected with his car and jacked into the number one spot on dreadnaut’s Serial Killer. Look at him go! The power gear line proved the winner in the end, rocketing Duplode, dreadnaut and myself to places two to four. These lines were obviously not as good as CTG’s, but both of Cork`s Crew members were called forward for a talk with the referee after their lines proved so tight in places that even Stunts’s replay function wasn’t sure whether they should have crashed there or not. Meanwhile a lot of drivers had a good time on this track using other cars, and especially the Porsche Carrera found its place as a real scoreboard filler. It was also the car of choice for the GAR competition, with only Straycat edging out a hard fought fifth place using the Superkart. Seeker1982 won the GAR race, with KaoS not far behind.

But enough looking back. This month’s winner CTG is also the designer of our next and final track for this year’s competition: Home Office. Certainly an apt title for the 2020 championship track. Judging from the spoiler CTG posted on the forums Home Office promises to be a split road closed track with good sized straights and some banked corners. Will we see dual way switching by means of daring jumps? Or is it quicker to be a straight shooter and steer well clear of a watery grave?

Looking over the contenders the season comes down to a two horse race for first place. Seeker1982 was only one point behind Duplode in the real ranking as it looked at the end of race 11, which will certainly fire up the hungry challenger looking to improve on the second place he conquered in the 2018 season. But Duplode, thanks to great consistency, is already guaranteed a total of at least 105 points for any result of third place or lower with no leading time bonus. This means that even if the mighty 5 times Zakstunts champion just rolls out his hammock this month, Seeker will need to score 11 points, including leading time bonus, to pass him on the scoreboard. A heroic challenge for any candidate champion. This race is given another dimension because track designer CTG gave both of the potential champions the option to give car bonus points to their ride of choice. This resulted in bonuses to both of the DTM cars and a hefty penalty to the unpredictable wildcard that is the Ferrari GTO. But we shouldn’t count out the Porsche Carrera quite yet. It is a car that has come up a lot in recent races, but it was last seen on the podium during ZCT212.

But will it even be one of them? Current third place driver CTG can raise his final score to 106 points at most and could overtake both Duplode and Seeker, who is currently guaranteed a minimum of 102 points for any result of fifth place or lower with no leading time bonus. This race just got even better. Dreadnaut and myself meanwhile got together during a nice referee intervention and ultimately decided we are keeping it simple in our race for fourth place. We’re tied on the exact same number of points and both need a fifth place or better (or LTB) to improve.

In the Newbie League the final standings for the season seem settled, but that does not mean ZCT233 is not going to be an absolute nail biter. Since entering the contest four races ago KyLiE has been trading first and second places with Stingray86. This one is going to be the decided of their personal best of five. Or is Straycat going to surprise everyone and take this year’s final gold?

And fights like these are what this month is really going to be about. Every single pipsqueak on the scoreboard has challenges cut out for them. Afullo could be eyeing a finish ahead of Alan Rotoi, Heretic could be looking to get his first fourth place as a launching point for future podium finishes, and GTAMan15 could go for a jump of as many as maybe even six places on the year’s final standings with a strong showing this month.

Whoever you are, whatever your goal is, game on. Also: skid the virus, and here’s to 2021.

  • dreadnaut
Thanks for the video, @Overdrijf, it's perfect! I'm not really concerned about cheating here, but about *archival*. With this, we have a record of how the lap looks like, and can be reproduced. And thank you for the great article! ⭐

    Carrera 1:17.25
  • dreadnaut
@Straycat ? some of your GAR replays are invalid, because you cut the cork l/r element, instead of following the yellow line. I'll remove the "GAR" tag from them, but leave them in place for the main scorebarod.

Nov 24

  • Seeker1982
just trying a few cars out in GAR
    Jaguar 1:49.86
  • afullo
Seeker, what about plans for our team regarding 2021? ZCT233 - Home Office

Nov 25

  • Seeker1982
regarding teams 2021 I'm still pondering. Partly I make it dependent on my final result this year. But to be honest I like to join a team with the really fast guys in freestyle /RH/main-competition like @Duplode or @CTG so I can learn how to improve further. I don't like ZCT232 to happen again - it really devastated me

Nov 26

  • afullo
Well, CTG at the moment is without a team, and he considers very unlikely the reproposition of Looping Warriors, so since we have at least a free slot... Wink

  • Shoegazing Leo
    4th with correct car...
    Mercedes DTM 1:48.48 A
  • KyLiE
@Straycat, your most recent GAR replay is also invalid. You cut the corkscrew left/right and went off the track several times. Still a good time for the main scoreboard though! Smiley
  • CTG
@Seeker1982: Cork's Crew is full (although Bonsai Tree and Zakariás are inactive for ages), therefore I suggest you to stay in Rolling Stunts. You have quite experienced teammates. As you could note, usually my replays are public even in the second half of the race, even during quiet days. So: there's no need to be in the same team to check my section times. Smiley

Nov 27

  • afullo
Dreadnaut will not be part of a team in 2021, so we have *two* free slots...
  • Overdrijf
If you can find Mr. Cork, possibly on his yacht in the Bahama's around this time of year, you could always ask him if he's willing to let you hire Duplode for a year. Cheesy Just don't expect it to be cheap...

Nov 29

  • Duplode
A season-long loan, as in football? Cheesy
    Carrera 1:16.11

@Overdrijf, I can reset your password in R4K and send you the temporary new password if you confirm that you can't access your account. Just let me know

What about a drafting event? Roll Eyes

Weaker teams allowed to draft with priority better pipsqueaks without team? It would be not so bad...
